Should be 1.6 Gbps !

I had my new install today and its only running at max 950mb down and 115 up and it should be 1.6gbps

I have the new EE SMART Hub ! Can someone advise ? I have Cat 8 Cable connected to the Yellow Ethernet ports.

Does it matter what port you put it in as its not got any label or marks to say otherwise. please advise as I am paying £25 more to get these faster speeds that I don't currently get.

None of the usable ports on the Smart Hub are over 1Gbps, you’ll not get over that speed using a wired connection (or wireless).

Many of us have bought our own WiFi 6E/7 routers with multi gig ports. If you’re not able to do that then you’ll need to wait for the EE WiFi 7 routers to launch whenever that might be.

When I spoke with the next gen team apparently the official line is that the 1.6Gbps connection is shared across wired and wireless connections and is not intended for a single device to get 1.6Gbps so the WiFi 6 router is fine on that basis. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Yep unfortunately EE sell a premium product with sub standard equipment. The hub is only capable of the speeds you are receiving. They do have a WiFi 7 router in development but it uses there own firmware so will probably be restrictive and also substandard for a premium product. I like many others have been out and purchased our own routers which range from£300 to £700 for a single unit, personally i got a Asus Rog Rapture BE98 which has been awesome with 4 x 2.5Gbe, 2 x 10Gbe and a 1Gbe Lan ports plus the WiFi 7 is maxing out my FTTP speeds with links direct to my server exceeding 3Gb. Problem is when you pat for a premium service you should not need to buy your own equipment (not without a subscription discount at least)

At least that way they are catering to the novice and the enthusiast which these high tier packages are clearly aimed at

For what its worth the current offering from EE for there router clearly cannot provide the speed OR Control / features

An isp router is designed to connect with minimum fuss and supply internet connection, try not to cause to many problems once its connected etc etc. In an ideal world all those that have got the latest 1.6Gb/s package of either ilk, then EE when it ever gets done offer the latest router (in test no doubt) to those user's, doubt it will happen that way though. Who wants to be the tester!!!

EE are trialling their new WiFi 7 routers with a selection of customers and staff at the moment so the launch should be imminent. We don’t know the spec of the router, any anyone on it will not be able to discuss it with the forum.

I was one of the trialists for the SH2 on BT many moons ago. I missed out this time, didn’t meet the requirements for the trial but they’re not going to be able to beat my current router performance (Orbi RBE973S) so not that bothered.

Just last night i was downloading at 1.45gbs from the Xbox app on my PC while 2 over users in the house where streaming 4K. While i agree there is still a lot of legacy devices out there with WiFi 6/E and 1Gbe nics most new hardware is now being released with WiFi 7 and minimum 1 x 2.5Gbe. This is exactly why i said EE should offer up the option of adding a third p[arty router to your monthly plan should you so which to utilize the speed appropriately. I saw just last week ZEn (i think it s them) offering the Eero Pro Max 7 as an addition should you want it

The spec on that isn’t that far away from the SH3, it’s still only WiFi 6.

Does it have multi gig Ethernet ports?

WiFi 6E and WiFi 7 are more able to deal with the 1.6Gbps connection but not many devices have the hardware for those standards. Even when you have a device that’s 6E or 7 the further away from the router the slower it gets.

The fibre ONT has to have the model with it's 2.5gb/s lan/wan port for the Router Wan output - ONT Wan input. Model of the ont decides its speed, but the colour of the ONT rj45 NIC can also inform you of its speed.

Edit: the TUF 3000 is the same spec as the EE router, it only has a high speed wan output port, and only 4 - 1Gb/s lan connections.

I have now returned that Router and purchased one that has dedicated 2.5gb Lan ports ! I'll let you know how I get on ! Still think its a massive Scam that EE are advertising the faster internet yet the hub they supply does not support these speeds! not even close.
