I have just switched from BT to EE, I had complete Wi-Fi package with BT and wanted the same with EE. EE supplied a new Hybrid connect I set it up and it worked for a week. Then it started displaying 3 steady red lights (i.e. no 4 G signal), tried a normal reset and then a factory reset to no avail. Rang EE and the tech dept, basically ran through the same procedure. They decided to send out a new Hybrid connect, it arrived and I tried to set up but experienced the same problem, rang EE and after the same checks they decided to send out one of their Tech guys. He diagnosed the issue in about 5 minutes. On the bottom of the hybrid connect is where the sim card is located (difficult to see) and he pointed out the sim card was not located properly (it looked ok but you have to push in till it clicks), This fixed the issue and incidentally the issue was the same on the original box! Its not a great design and I have not found this issue on any videos, FAQ's etc but it should be. The tech guy said he went to the issue first as it was not the first issue with the sim card not being located properly.

I have recently got the EE hybrid connect with BT and it’s flashing red on the signal bars , I’ve been told multiple different things from it’s meant to flash red & that I need a sim for it and then that the sim is already in the box , I am just very confused if someone could explain for me

Unfortunately this video does not help, it does not show the fault being reported. It does not indicate what a red flashing 4G signal is. My mobile is with EE and has no signal issues in the same house/room whatsoever.

I have been sent a second hybrid connect box, and this has exactly the same issue. I completely agree with the below comment that was submitted.

"Hi, just moved from BT to EE and getting flashing red bars on EE hybrid connect, no one I've spoken to at EE/BT seems to know why.

Hi, finally managed to get this resolved, had to make a complaint and someone finally got in touch who knew what they were talking about. He said there was a known issue with the Sim cards in these units, and he sent me one that now does work. Had to return the previous 3 I was sent!!! Good luck

You may have very poor 4G signal indoors - try close to a window. It's only worth having the hybrid connect if you have a strong 4G signal. But the hybrid connect isn't necessary anyway if your Smart Hub is connected to the internet.

Louise

I had the same thing. Moved from BT to EE.

A factory reset of the hybrid connect (push and hold reset button at the back for 20 + seconds) and let it boot up. From there pair it to the New EE smart hub plus box.

All works fine.

Exactly the same is happening to me! Have spent about six hours on various calls to EE - all useless and being told different things every time. I am now on my second, brand-new Hybrid hub and the red signal bars keep flashing red. At end of tether as previous BT one worked just fine - I was told I could not keep the old kit once I upgraded to a new account package. Have tried connecting it with WPS button, then with about four different ethernet cables, then with factory reset using pin, and checking SIM card etc. Maddening beyond belief. Now awaiting EE engineer. Useless service!

Is this the 4G or 5G hybrid connect? Do you have an internet connection? If you have an internet connection then you don't need the hybrid connect. If you have a 4g hybrid connect then it's basically a waste of space, particularly if you have a poor or missing 4G signal. I don't know if the 5G version is any better.

Regards

Louise

Thanks very much for this; I will check whether it’s a 4G or 5G.

The point of the hybrid is as back-up though so, although my internet connection is generally very good, if my broadband should go down for any reason, I need the instant back-up to be functioning properly as I work from home.

My previous hybrid hub (BT) worked well and kicked in on the odd occasion I needed it.

I’ll have to see what an engineers says I guess…

Thank you!

That means your paying for something you'll probably never use! Chances of a typical internet connection failing is quite small. Check your 4G and 5G coverage online. Sometimes, like me, in an urban area the signals aren't great. Likewise in a rural area - you can't win! Even my TV comes and goes 😞 . How are your mobile phone signals (4G/5G) indoors?

Mobile signal is pretty good throughout my flat (London).

If I didn’t work from home I wouldn’t worry about it, but it has been useful in the past when the broadband did go down, for whatever reason.

It’s just infuriating as the BT one worked well for years but I was told I couldn’t keep it once I had the new EE router…

Ho hum!

Is that true of both your 4G and 5G? My phone 4G is poor indoors away from a window. 5G is better but I actually use wifi and 2G most of the time. I found with the Hybrid Connect it was quite poor signal wise. No good away from a window. I'm near a city centre. I believe mobil signal strength can vary with time of day and how busy the networks are. Which EE router do you have? I have the BT Smart Hub 2.
