Second router will not get WAN IP - no internet

Everything works fine within the house. Plugged ethernet cable into Port 2 on FTTP Openreach white box modem to reach garden shed, with new TPLink router and it will not get a WAN IP address. I can give as much details as you like! Tried new cables too.

Cable to WAN port on new router. Cloned MAC address in case that was a problem when doing Quick Setup. It’s set up as a Wireless router (not Access Point) . Modem gave it an IP address and subnet mask - all OK, just no WAN IP!

Is this something EE are doing? I tried the new router plugged into my normal routers Port 1 on the modem, and that didnt work either.

What do you mean by 2nd router? Are you using 2 routers in series? If so, only the 1st router is given a public WAN IP.

Show us the WAN Settings page of the TP-Link.

@Jnorris235 unless you take out another service then the second port on the ONT will not give you any service.

You should be able to set up a second router as an access point by plugging it into a LAN port of the main router, to the WAN port of the secon one. If the IP range is the same on both roters you will need to switch DHCP off on the second router.

What routers do you have?

Not in series. House router (from EE) plugged into Port 1 of white box. New router (TPLink) plugged into Port 2. So not in series (not knowingly, anyway) - set up as Wireless Router, not Access Point.

OIC! In parallel then but the 2nd router is dead as Port 2 of ONT carries no signal unless you have bought 2 BB packages from somebody. All you can do is connect the WAN of the TP-Link to a LAN of the EE router to extend its reach.

Clarifying: The white box modem has ONLY Port 1 configured to use. Wow.

So connect it to EE router instead. Simples - except that the router is in the middle of our house and virtually inaccessible. Still, that’s the way it is.

The new router can still be configured as a separate SSID hopefully?

That's correct! You've only paid out for 1 BB line.

You can change the SSIDs as you like but it might be better to have them the same so a device can connect to either as is its wont.
