The payment will be used to pay the next bill, so will be a credit for future payments.

Setting up direct debit

I just tried setting up a direct debit and was told I need to pay my monthly bill first which I did even though £0.00 was due to be paid. I made a payment for the monthly amount anyway, but I still can't get to set up a direct debit as the same message still appears each time I try. If the money I paid was not due yet, can I get it back, or will it just pay for the next bill?

Hi @Cp78

Thanks for coming to the community.

If you are having trouble getting the direct debit set up online, I'd recommend speaking to our billing guides, who can access your account to get it set up for you.

If there isn't a balance due yet, and your account is in credit, they can either arrange a refund or leave the credit balance to go to the next bill if you prefer.
