That is just wrong, how can I be a business customer when I am an employee and are claiming my expenses??

I am about to start the same fight with EE.

The VAT regulations ( 1995 No. 2518, PART III , Regulation 13 ) entitle everyone to a VAT invoice (https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1995/2518/regulation/13/made) ... I would advise EE to read the law maybe and stop being scum bags.

@Nim1964 and consumer tariffs have the VAT inclusive on the bill. To claim VAT you need to be VAT registered and have a business account. EE don’t have to supply your bill with the VAT separately as it’s a consumer tariff.

Even before it was shown inclusive the bill actually stated it wasn’t for VAT purposes or a VAT receipt.

Okay here's how this works if you're not a business customer. Text chat with EE and ask for a VAT invoice. They will quote you the stuff about not being a business customer. Tell them that the 1994 VAT act legally requires all VAT registered traders to provide VAT invoices on request. They will agree (they have no choice, this is serious stuff). I am now expecting to receive my VAT invoices for the period required in the next few days. I will update again then.

For VAT invoices you'd need to call our Business Customer Service team on 150 who'll be able to change your account to a business account.
This will allow you to be issued with VAT Invoices moving forward.

There is no requirement to issue VAT invoices to customers who are not taxable persons, as such domestic (personal) accounts are not issued with VAT invoices.

People are working more from home now and can apportion their bills (and VAT) accordingly, as such having VAT itemised and receiving a VAT invoice is no skin off EE's nose. It should issue both residential and business invoices in the same manner - with the VAT stated.

It doesn't matter whether I am a business or personal customer if you charge VAT there should be a VAT number on the bill

@T3447 : It used to be on EE BB bills but no longer. A Web search (aka GIYF) will easily find it for you.

I quoted exactly this when I spoke to a Manager from their Escalations (Electronics) team in Newcastle, he simply said EE state in their T&Cs that no VAT invoices are given to consumers (regardless of whether a VAT breakdown was given at checkout, business address, business payment details) etc. Are they just pocketing the VAT income?

Unless you're vat registered yourself EE don't have to supply a VAT invoice, despite the claims from others as per my previous post on this -

Also Do-you-always-have-to-issue-a-VAT-invoice.pdf states as follows -

Contrary to what you might expect, there’s only one situation where you’re required by law
to issue an invoice, that is where you and your customer are both VAT registered.

My understanding has always been that a retailer doesn't have to provide a vat invoice to a retail customer unless specifically asked to do so, in which case they must. I may be wrong but EE seems to be happy to supply me with vat invoices on request which is good enough for me.
