If you move to a SIM only plan then we would not complete a credit check @Rosieann1994.

Before we introduced Flex Pay plans, where you pay for the device and airtime seperately, we would only take into account your payment history, however, if you were wanting a new plan on Flex Pay, including a device, we would need to complete a credit check to ensure that what we are offering is affordable for your circumstances.

I am already on a flex pay plan and paying off a device until 2027. I am maintaining my payments with no issues and will continue to do so until it’s paid off. But I am going through a debt relief order at the moment and is my EE contract is not included in it and has nothing to do with my debt relief order. When this device is paid off in 2027 if my payments are maintained with no issues from now- then can I upgrade to a new device once this has been paid off?? Wasn’t sure what the rules was for device upgrades and contract renewals with EE and credit checks.

If you opt for another Flex Pay plan then you would need to complete another credit check, as this is a new device finance agreement each time @Rosieann1994, but there may be other options available if you're not able to proceed with a new Flex Pay plan, given this is quite far in the future.

I thought you can upgrade/renew a contract and get a new device and their was no credit check as I’m concerned about how my credit file will appear after this debt relief order has finished this year as it will still be on my credit file in 2 years when I go for a newer phone . I thought they just checked your payment history with EE..

Would I be able to upgrade to a new device in 2 years time and stay on sim only? Or do I need to get a flex plan to get a new iPhone on contract. ? I’m very confused with it all.

if my credit has been damaged since being on this current contract even though EE are not included in my debt solution program is their a good chance I will not be able to renew and upgrade to a newer phone in 2 years even if I kept up with the payments since taking out this current contract in 2024 and I pay via direct debit and I intend to make the full payments on time every month until it has been paid off and I intend to do that when I upgrade also in the future. I never want to be without a phone or a contract. I’m just very worried and concerned about my options in the future.

Thanks for coming back to us.

I would suggest giving us a call on 150 at the time you want to upgrade as full checks will be carried out that are required and the team will go through all the upgrade options for your account. The options you will have available are not something we can advise on the community.

Our Flex Pay Explained Help page has more information on the Flex Pay for devices credit agreement.

Thanks 🙂
