Ive been quite lazy in not monitoring my mob phone bill for a while. It’s now much more than I expected the following are of interest :

1) unlimted data use age : do I really need this ?

2) calls to 08456 prefix : not sure of this one.

Hi @Alan241

Welcome to our community.

Thanks for your questions. It's impossible to say if you need unlimited data, but our team over the phone do usually look at this when you are upgrading/renewing your plan, and then look at an appropriate plan for you. If you are at the end of your contract, it would be worth giving them a call to see if there is another plan that would work well for you.

0845 numbers are usually companies and not included in your plan. You can find out more about them here Non Geographic Numbers Charges and Costs | Mobile Help | EE. If you have to call them regularly, it may be better value to look at an add-on to help keep the costs down.

Lesley

Thanks for you reply. I have been in contact with EE and have upgraded to a more suitable plan. Just need to keep an eye on 0845 numbers ?

That's great news @Alan241 I'm glad you've now upgraded to a more suitable plan.

It's worth keeping an eye on 0845 number, as they'll generate an extra charge.

There are websites where you enter the 0845 number, then they'll give you an alternate freephone number which will take you to the same company.

There are historic reasons why some organisations used 084x prefixed numbers, but the law now requires "existing customer" contact to be on 01, 02, 03 landline numbers or 080x free.

Any organisation using 084x chargeable numbers for sales enquiries is probably best avoided.

Ive contacted EE today and now have a block placed on these numbers. Another call to EE was regarding active add ons. On my active list, is a charge for EU roaming. Turns out only applies if visiting EU etc.

Just found an article from back in 2016 regarding scam concerning 0845 nos. Apparently still get billed even if not responding to call. I presume measures have been put in place since then ?
