Replying to this post more than 2 years later (Nov 2024) because it's still happening. I started getting marketing texts from Pizza Hut,

"Share the love with 2 pizzas for only £20! What will yours be? Order now (URL) T&Cs. Optout text STOP to 65011

So I send the STOP text - and EE reply:

Hi from EE. You don't have enough Spend Cap balance. If you're the account holder, you can increase or remove your Spend Cap at ee.co.uk/SpendCaps or text SPEND CAP to 150. For more info visit ee.co.uk/managespendcap

So, obviously PH opt-outs are still chargeable. I've contacted PH through their website instead.

I've received spam messages from Pizza Hut and attempted to stop these by sending STOP to 65011. I'm getting charged to send these STOP requests - is something amiss here?

No, SMS sent to shortcodes like that are always chargeable. They are not included in your text allowances.

In this case 65011 has been id'ed as a billing scam purporting to be from Pizza Hut.

Hmmm OK. Seems a bit unfair as I didn't sign up to the notifications! I've dug a bit more and it seems that I'm not the only one affected.

Emma Caroline - Hi Pizza Hut you keep texting me about... | Facebook

The content of the messages seems legit too as I'm taken to pizza deal pages with offers matching those on the texts.

Anyway, I started an online chat with EE about this just now and they've refunded me £1. Thanks EE!
