Been there with EE in South America.
A month of desperately sourcing free wifi to make contact back in the UK.

They still charged me hundreds of pounds.

Not true. I had this conversation earlier with an agent. Technically , if you pay prior to leaving the UK upfront for the package you'll be billed.

In the month I was there zero or one bar of signal gave me next to nothing. I was charged for a service EE could not provide. They're at the mercy of whatever providers are used over there.

This isn't a swipe at EE because itc was explained they can't be held responsible for poor service overseas. My gripe was in the confident advertising saying it'll be no problem.

If you have billing add-ons, then they're charged for regardless of usage.

"Hundreds of pounds" charging is stretching it for billing add-ons without specific detail of what the charges were for.

My bill was £92 for November and £133 for December. £7.84 a day was charged for overseas roaming. In the 3 plus weeks I spent in Bolivia/Argentina I had ZERO coverage and no data. Eventually after chatting online (using hotel wifi) to an EE rep they added £60 for ' minutes' I couldn't use either.

Tragic lack of service that has taught me a valuable lesson.

If you were charged for roaming in Bolivia & Argentina, you must have had network coverage to incur those charges.

That amount sounds possibly like a daily data add-on, but that can only be purchased by specific user action and/or a connection to a mobile network.

If you believe this is wrong, I'm happy to be corrected by sight of your bill.

The £7.84 was indeed a daily roaming charge and I did agree to it before travelling but once there I couldn't get the issues rectified.

It's done now and no amount of disappointment will change it. It wasn't about the money , more the false promise of an actual service prior to me leaving. If I had known it was going to be literally useless I wouldn't have bothered.
