Good evening @ everyone, I have just recently took over my husband's account ( 3 hrs ago). My husband died 8weeks ago, from then till now ee & myself had trouble changing account into my name. We managed to do it today, but since taking over account I've had more problems,( yes within 3hrs .. problems). I've asked to cancel contract but been told I would have to pay the whole contract fee, over £500 for 3 hrs!!! Can anyone tell me if this is right B4 I take legal advice. Thanks in advance

Is there a reason you chose to undertake a change of ownership rather than giving cancellation notice outright?

How far into the minimum term was the phone before the change of ownership was undertaken?

Did they not warn you that if you took over the contract you would be liable for any cancellation fees should you later cancel whereas if you didn't take it over there would be no cancellation fees against a deceased owner. EE did in another similar case. They are supposed to be the sympathetic Bereavement Team.

See Change My Account in The Case of a Life Event :

If you experience a bereavement, you can either:

disconnect their broadband or number and close their account

transfer the connection or number to someone else

I thought it was going to b easier to change it to my name as it was a family bundle. We were with BT mobile, then changed over to ee maybe a couple of months before he passed.

In which case, you have inherited ~20 months of the minimum term, multiply that by the monthly subscription cost and subtract (from memory) 4% and you will reach the buy-out costs that you are correctly liable for.
