Don’t use EE in Malta

My son went to Malta for 2 days and I have just been hit with an £8k phone bill. I called EE and they said that there is something wrong with their billing system. My phone and my kids phones have been cut off twice today as I am over my credit limit despite being told they have fixed the issue of being cut off and now the office is closed. EE, you really are appalling. The worst customer service ever.

Hi, there, I too have just returned from Malta to be hit with a £1700 bill for Vodafone Maritime charges, my Mom had a bill for £2300! it seems EE are aware of a problem with Malta and have said they are investigating and not to worry, they said we won’t have to pay

I was there (Malta) for 4 days a few weeks ago and woke up this morning to a text from EE and a five grand bill and they cut me off from the network until I made a payment. Went into my local EE branch and they phoned someone who said that EE network in Malta was not picking up the local telecoms masts so everything was pinging upto some expensive satellite …. They were trying to resolve it. It’s now 7.30pm and still not sorted. No apologies from EE …. Awful customer service !!

I’m the same … returned from Malta and my bill thankfully only £418 excess charges . Called EE who are looking into it but known issue at Malta side .

Hello! Same has happened to me but £1600.

ive been unable to contact EE for 3 days and my phone has been locked for the duration.

Absolutely disgraceful.

I was there for one day on 3rd May and got a bill for £3000, EE told me there was a problem with billing in Malta and i couldnt query it until i receive the bill on the 26th, they amended my credit allowance sobi wouldn't get cut off and told me to cancel my direct debit so the money couldnt get collected until it is sorted

Hi, they said similar to me, but have spoken to them since, they are now aware that there’s a bigger problem with Malta, and are getting lots of calls with the same complaints

Yes it’s happened to me today. Phones currently all blocked, even though they were meant to be unblocked whilst EE investigated. If I dial anyone it puts me through to EE to pay them, then tells me there’s a fault with their payment system and try’s to connect me to an operator, but they’ve all gone home !They say I owe them £9k according to the system. I was supposed to have a manager call me back, their offer not my request, I thought they meant today?

Hi, snap, exactly the same thing has happened to me today, £9k in my case. All phones currently off and they’ve all gone home. No mention of this issue when I rang them this morning. Probably all sat on their backsides watching Eurovision, I hope they get a power cut.

Our phones are currently blocked but if you join Wi-Fi you seem to be able to dial use Wi-Fi calling if you have it enabled?

We went to Malta last week, it seems from reading the other posts in that section about Malta that everyone who did received a massive bill, and in some cases, like me, have actually had their phones blocked.

It’s obviously a glitch so don’t worry about it EE will correct this. The last time I seen this happened someone was billed for something around £46 million.

Funnily enough We were in Malta two weeks ago aswell I ensured that roaming was on both phones before we went

Read the post ‘Don’t use EE in Malta’ it’s in the contracts and billing section. I’ve cancelled the direct debit as a precaution, just in case they accidentally try and take £9.5k from my account under the guise of a ‘glitch’

Also I have two numbers on my account! the other one being my other half’s, and it’s her number it’s come up on! She didn’t make any phone calls while there and was connected to the hotels Wi-Fi so next to no data used maybe the odd WhatsApp message

I only realised as went to use phone to order food this evening! And was blocked, tried ringing ee but got the same, so will ring in the morning as they open at 9.00am! Also will be cancelling direct debit until it’s sorted

Also, this may be something! My other half connected to the hotel wi fi, whereas I didn’t! I just used 5g! It’s her number the charge is on! I’m wondering if it’s some kind of scam that when you connect to the hotel Wi-Fi it’s creating a charge 🤔
