BT offers cheaper EE deals than EE's actual deals to loyal customers

I recently bought my own phone and "upgraded" to a SIM only deal with EE. The cheapest useful tariff available was £20 for 160Gb data. I use on average about 15Gb of data, but there was nothing between an utterly useless 250Mb for £13 and the deal I chose.

My partner has just renewed her daughter's SIM only deal with BT, who have offered her an EE SIM, 50Gb for £13.50. She was told that they can get better deals than actual customers. Good for them.

50Gb/£13 is a much more sensible level of data and cost. Please explain why EE can't offer more incremental and competitive deals to their loyal customers. I have been with EE for almost 10 years and they have had their money's worth from me, but it seems they can't reward that loyalty by offering long-standing customers a decent deal.

That deal is only available to BT Broadband customers so a bit pointless trying to compare. .

@Lee_R , have you tried ringing customer service and speaking to the mobile team at EE, to see what they can offer? You may get a better deal, especially if you have been a loyal customer. I just did this with my broadband which is up for renewal and got a much better deal, saving me money!

Except we don't have a broadband contract with BT, @Mustrum. Perhaps I wasn't clear in my apparently pointless post that wasn't about comparison, but a more fundamental complaint that EE's customers don't have as much choice as people who somehow tolerate BT.

Thanks for your helpful reply, @Schockwave. If you think that might make a difference, then I'll take your advice and do just that. 👍 It's heartening to hear that you got a better deal than advertised; of course they don't make it obvious that there's room for negotiation.

To be honest, I wasn't really expecting any proper answers here, just using it to vent my frustration at the usual corporate lack of consideration to customers. So I appreciate your advice, cheers.

@Lee_R , It is always worth a try, I have learned this over the years and usually ring customer service, to see what they can offer, I shall be doing that in September, as I shall be changing my phone contract to a sim only contract, until I next want a new phone and can afford to do so. I’ve always found that ringing EE up and asking about deals will get you better deals than what you can see on the site. I was getting 150gb of data for £14 a month but recently rang them and changed to an unlimited allowance of data, texts and mins and also got a free smart benifit thrown in for £25 a month on 12 month contract. That same contract online shows for £40 a month on site. So may be a little inconvenient to ring up and wait a little bit is worth it in long run.

not sure if this is the right place to post but BT persuaded me to transfer my sim only deal to EE. After a few misunderstandings and errors!! all seemed to be going okay until today; where I looked at possibly upgrading to a new phone and sim deal and similar for my wife, only to be told I am new to EE (part of BT) and cannot upgrade to a new phone until next year...... so all the loyalty years with BT have seemingly vanished. A complete mockery of transferring in the first place - what to do next, maybe take an O2 deal after a week with EE?

Welcome to the community,

As you are a new customer with EE, you need to have a contract for several months before you can upgrade. BT and EE are still two companies in their own right, and EE need to see that you make regular payments, as you are a new customer to them.

Just because you have been loyal to BT, this does not carry over to EE, they do not have access to your account.

@dcb568 , You can always buy a new phone and put your SIM card in the new phone on launch, but you may want to wait until launch of the new IPhone, which is supposed to be launched in September, although knowing how things are, could be delayed, then try again and see if you can upgrade then.
