I called EE tonight to change my payg Sim to a pay monthly, imagine my surprise when I was told I’d failed the credit check, FOR A SIM ONLY contract!

So to be sure I hadn’t been a victim of some sort of financial fraud that’s having a negative effect on my rating I set up an account with Equifax (one of the agencies EE use apparently) and nothing I have a credit score that’s assessed as very good.

leaves the question how good does it need to be, particularly for a Sim only account? Must need to be a sultan to get an IPhone!

Hi @Macgl78 ,

The below link gives some pointers for what might be needed to pass a credit check. It's possible and even likely that customers can pass a credit check for one network but fail for another.

The below link gives some offers where a credit check is not required and some of those are with EE.

It certainly does seem strange that an existing customer might be denied but one play may be to get a no-credit-check EE pay-monthly, SIM-only contract via another route (e.g. uSwitch.com or topcashback.co.uk ) and ask to move your number from PAYG to the new SIM (from memory there are reports on here of that being an option).

https://kenstechtips.com/index.php/mobile-phone-credit-check
