Retaining Staff discount after redundancy

Hi

I was made redundant from EE back in Jan 2020 after 20 years service starting as an Orange employee. I retained my staff discount but it only recently struck me that I haven't had that for a while and I am sure it was for life (unless I migrated to another provider of course).

I did at some point a few years ago opt for SIM only deal for a while and I wonder if that somehow invalidated my discount?

I have the same issue. On the phone now to 150 CS and they’re saying because I left the company (8 years ago) I’m no longer eligible. Surely discount for life is discount for life? Being told to speak to my manager! lol! My whole team left at the same time! So disappointed I’m having to fight for something that has always been automatically applied. Who is in charge of hr these days? Very unhappy.

Are you looking to, or have you recently changed to a plan that is not eligible for the discount?

Some plans and deals are not compatible with other discounts, which may cause your leavers discount to automatically drop off.

I'd recommend giving Customer Service another call as they can raise a query to the discount team for you to make sure you can retain your discount when you upgrade with an eligible plan.

was actually told exactly the same sort of thing when I spoke to EE yesterday.

The person I spoke to said, “If it was for life, what would stop someone working for a month and getting a lifetime discount?”

My response was that this isn’t about someone working for a month and expecting a lifetime benefit. We worked for T-Mobile, Orange and EE for many years and were specifically granted the discount on a lifetime basis when we left.

If there were particular qualifying criteria for the lifetime benefit, then surely those criteria should be checked against the terms that applied at the time we left, rather than simply saying that because we are no longer employees, we are no longer entitled.

It’s really frustrating because the discount has been automatically applied for years, and now we’re suddenly having to prove an entitlement that was already granted.

I’m determined to get someone in HR/Employee Services to actually look at the original terms and explain why a benefit that was granted for life can simply be removed.

Hi, I’m in exactly the same position and this has just happened to me too!

How did you get on with EE in the end? Were you able to get anywhere with it or find someone in HR/Employee Services who could help?

If you’ve managed to find the right person or get this escalated, would you mind sharing how you did it? I’d really appreciate any help, as I’m now trying to get my lifetime discount reinstated too.

I was also told yesterday that because I’m no longer an employee, I’m no longer eligible, which just doesn’t make sense when the discount was granted for life when I left.

Any help or contact details you’ve managed to find would be really appreciated. Thankyou.
