40% bill increase

I just got a text to say my £6 a month bill is being increased to £8.50. A 40% increase ! Outrageous ! During a cost of living crisis too. BT / EE should be ashamed.

That's correct. It's the Annual price changes from March onwards which you accepted as part of your contract.

Wow £8.50.

This is not the annual price increase then.

I suspect that If you're out of contract on a legacy plan EE like all carriers can give you 30 days notice they are moving you to a more current equivalent plan. The cost may increase as a result.

@Northerner : It's not BY £8.50. It's TO £8.50 & hence BY £2.50. So it is the annual price increase!

When mid-contract price rises were first allowed by Ofcom, they were percentage-based thus lower-priced plans had a lower increase. Then the inflation-crisis hit and price-rises breached double-figures, causing mass complaints.

There has been a general trend across the industry since then, towards "simplicity" that is best achieved by fixed-price increases, also achieving the price certainty over a 2year minimum-term that consumers generally want.

The negative-side of fixed-price increases is that they tend to be a higher-percentage on lower-priced plans, as in your case. Whatever the industry or individual operators do, is likely to cause upset somewhere. There are a handful of providers out there who advertise fixed-prices across 24months, but they may have other drawbacks in other areas.

Same for me mate. Just got hit with a completely unjustified 25% increase, The last straw.

It’s a fixed price increase not a percentage increase. The fact any can work it out as a percentage is great but it’s a £2.50 increase across all price points. The low the tariff the higher it is when worked out as a percentage. And a few years ago everyone was complaining about the CPI+3.9% increase.
