Hi I'm on the old style plan were I only have 1 payment.

I went to store to ask about what happens when my phone contract ends on 27th February.

I was told I would continue to be billed at my usual charge.

I asked so if I do nothing I'm still going to get charged over £80 a month (due to increases) even though the phone is paid off.

They replied yes.

Is this correct as I thought it would have dropped to equivalent 'sim only' price as phone is paid off.

Already going to change to sim only but just wanted to know if he was correct.

Yes the advice you were given is correct.

On these traditional contracts there is no concept of paying off the device. You simply agree to a price plan of x amount (£75pm in your case, plus agreed increases) and are given the device in return for committing to this price plan for a 24-month minimum term.

At the end of the minimum term your plan will not be changed unilaterally by EE, meaning you must get in touch if you wish to change this to a SIM Only to lower the price or another device plan. Without getting in touch, your existing plan just continues on a rolling basis.

All customers should receive a text message when they're approaching the end of their minimum-term, outlining their options.

The choice of which option to take ultimately needs to be that of the end user or their account holder.
