I have a sim only contract for one of my numbers. Is roaming covered within my current data plan or would I need to add this on?

That's impossible to answer without knowing which country you're travelling to, and more importantly the specific name of your plan - being SIM-only just means you don't get a phone with it.

The online roaming costs tool includes an account lookup which should assist if you're not sure - https://ee.co.uk/help/help-new/roaming-costs > choose your destination country.

Essentials Plans don't include EU roaming as standard. Meaning the £2.59/day or £15/week charging will apply.

Take a look at the link I posted previously, for some more clarity. Remember to ensure the free roaming facility is enabled on your SIM, to unlock coverage abroad - text ROAMING to 150 before leaving the UK.
