Buying new apple watch privately ( under EE contract)

I am looking to buy an Apple Watch privately from someone who has just got it as part of an EE contract plan.

1) is there still a condition that EE devices cannot be privately sold in the first six months?

2) if so or after 6 months, will I be able to add my own EE watch data plan to this all watch? What is the process of doing so?

my early understanding is that EE won’t allow another data plan to be installed on the watch?

Hi @Tong38do,

Welcome to the Community!

You will not be able to set up a new plan for the watch outside of the plan they have agreed, until their plan has finished, or they will be charged the remaining cost of the contract to do so, as this would cancel the plan they've agreed.

Just to clear this up a little bit, and avoid confusion for other users, I've edited @Rach_H reply a bit. EE own the equipment for the first 6 months of contract, so we recommend against buying or selling anything within that period.

I can see that she gave you some great advice around the actual data plan, though.

If the Apple Watch is sold after the initial 6 month period, will the new buyer be able to use the cellular capabilities of the Apple Watch with his own EE plan?

No problem, @Tong38do

After the 6 months is up, as long as the previous owner has 'unpaired' it, the new owner will be able to set up a standalone plan through the 'set up mobile data plan' section of the 'Watch' app.

Our Set up an Apple Watch help page has a little more information on setting up a pre-owned Apple Watch.
