Hello

After some technical support in relation to EE hotspot connection.

Are there any circumstances where an iPad could automatically connect to an EE hotspot without a user manually connecting it. Ie going in to the WiFi settings and selecting to connect it.

The iPad was brought in to a home with sky wifi but connected to EE hotspot without the user selecting WiFi. The iPad had not been in this hose before. I do have EE mobile phone.

Just a note it only showed as connected in the homepage where the WiFi icon is the actual internet connection was not checked or any websites accessed.

Many thanks

Hello @K_Wils,

Welcome to the EE Community

Your device will automatically connect to any Wi-Fi it has been connected to previously. What you have connected on is likely to be EE public WiFi Get public WiFi access | Find WiFi hotspots | EE WiFi

The iPad may not have connected to the EE hotspot in that specific location in the past but it must have connected to a EE WiFi spot some point previously and so has automatically connected when it has been scanning for available WiFi networks.

From what I understand you did not actually try and connect to the internet on it. But with the EE public WiFi, if you are an EE broadband or BT broadband customer you can use the hotspot free, otherwise you have to buy access. When you try and connect on the internet through the hotspot it will take you to a login page to login to your EEID where you can then buy access if you are not a broadband customer.

If you wanted to remove the EE WiFi you should be able to forget it in the device settings, which means it wont automatically connect. How to forget a Wi-Fi network on iPhone, iPad or Mac – Apple Support (UK)

Alex
