Depending on the phone you have you can add an e-SIM alongside your existing EE SIM, and just turn the EE SIM off.

Hello is it possible to change the e sim in your phone to another provider temporarily?

travelling abroad and EE roaming charges are way to high! So want to temporarily get a different sim from another provider to use and then switch back to ee on my return.

Your EE SIM is an EE SIM and can't be changed into anything else.

Dual-SIM phones can carry 2 SIMs - sometimes this is one pSIM and one eSIM, sometimes it's 2 pSIM. Some phones can carry either a micro-SD or second pSIM in the spare slot.

I know this has been marked as a solution but just a slight clarification for iPhone users who might read this.

iPhone 13 and newer can store 'carry' more than 2 eSims (8 or more depending on the model) But only 2 can be active at any given time.

It's perfectly feasible to swap them around as active within a few seconds. iPhone 12 and earlier it is 1 pSim and 1 eSim. iPhone 13 and later you can have 2 eSims active and dont actually need a pSim if you dont want one. (im referring to UK model phones as there are spec differences in some countries)

I have multiple eSims on my iPhone for different countries and swap them around as needed.

For the scenario the OP described, they could easily turn off the EE sim (without any risk to their contract) and have another 1 or 2 eSims active from another provider if they chose to.
