Have an iphone watch that has not been used in 2 years as linked to my son’s forgotten apple id . Can this be fixed

What do you mean fixed. You want to change the owner of the account, change the apple id, cancel the contract?

Tried all of the above but because its linked to an old apple id its not allowing me to pair to any other device . Thankd so much for your help

If it is locked to your Son's Apple ID, you'd need access to that ID to remove the activation lock.
