RCS after porting number, stuck on verifying number.

A few months back, I came to EE from O², all went smoothly, but my Google messages was sending RCS messages as my temporary number. Tried changing it and it wouldn't work. Now I've had a new SIM card, the number is correct, but it's stuck on "trying to verify your number"

Been like this for weeks now, tried multiple different methods online to fix this, none of which are working.

I factory reset my phone today, I now have the option to get both Sims on RCS, the three esim I have is working fine, connected to RCS straight away, but still not verifying the EE number.

I've reset carrier services, reset messages app, and I've made it even worse. Now im just getting "RCS is unavailable for this device"

Honestly, I could cry. It really shouldn't be this hard.

Any suggestions welcome please 🙏

Thanks for coming to the community, I am sorry you are experiencing these issues getting RCS ser up with the correct number.

Just to check have you tried the steps in the Can't turn on RCS chats - Google Messages support page since you had the new SIM?

If so, please get in touch with our tech guides by calling 150, and they will run through some troubleshooting to see what is needed to get RCS working for you.

H Leanne, yeah I've literally tried everything.

I think there's a conflict with my temporary number which I now no longer have access to. (07*******)

Google messages initially verified the correct number, but whenever I sent an RCS number, the person receiving it would see 07****** instead of my correct number, and that's even when my correct number was showing as 'verified' and 'connected' in Google messages, it was still sending as my temporary number.

I've got a feeling that Google is trying to get verification from 079****** to verify my actual number that's been ported across.

I had a new SIM card to see if I could get Google messages to see that it was a different SIM with a different number, and ever since I've had a new SIM card, it's now just refusing to verify it.

I've literally tried everything on the internet, called EE, they said call Google, called Google, and they say call EE.

It's all incredibly frustrating to say the least 😕

I've tried:

Reset carrier services

Reset messages (clear data)

Tried beta versions of both apps

Completely WIPED my phone and started fresh.

Totally at a loss now.

Is it possible you could pop the SIM in another phone to see if RCS can verify the number?

If not, I would advise calling us again to see what other troubleshooting can be done to get this sorted for you.

That was my next move, my friend has the same phone as me so I'm going to put it in hers on Sunday, I'll let you know how we get on. Thank you

I've tried my number in someone else's phone and it's not verifying it in that either. Can you think of anything else please? 🥺

Hi, I had pretty much exactly the same problem as you and something di work:

1. Switch off RCS in the Google messages app (go into the app, choose setting, message settings, RCS chats, Turn off RCS chats)

2. then go back out of the app and go into your phone settings

3. At the very top of the menu, depending on which phone you're using, you'll see 'Google Services and Preferences' - click on that

4. Then click on 'All Services'

5. Scroll down and you'll see 'Phone Number Verification' and click on that

6. switch off where it says 'Automatically verify phone number(s) and leave it off for a few seconds

7. Switch it back on and then go back to the Google messages app and switch RCS chats back on. Mine connected to RCS virtually instantly
