I recently signed up to EE TV "full works " and have had nothing but problems using the Pro box and mini box in another room . The HD sky sports and tnt HD channels are intermittent and when I try using the uhd tnt channel it causes the whole network in my home to shut down . I am using an Asus router and have multi cast and "IGMP Snooping enabled . When I use the now TV app and discovery plus apps I experience no streaming issues but I only suffer these issues when I use EE TV . My service is full fibre 500mb so can any one explain why this is happening and how to fix it please

So I think I solved my own issue . You need to limit the bandwidth of each box . I limited it to 50mbps on upload and download . This seems to stabilise the network and allow streaming in HD and UHD. I tested this a couple of times on both devices at same time and it seemed to work . More testing may be required to be deemed as a valid fix

Yes, that will probably work, as what is happening is that despite having a couple of multicast settings on the Asus router, it’s still flooding your network with multicast packets, and by limiting bandwidth you are limiting the flooding to a manageable level.

EETV take the view that they will have supplied you with a router that works with multicast, and if you want to use your own router, then you are on your own with any multicast problems you get. But there are knowledgeable customers who can help here.

Multicast is only used to deliver the EPG channels that EETV send over the internet, which is why you don’t get problems using the apps,

So I have limited bandwidth . Enabled multi cast and IGMP snooping . I don't want to use an EE router and I sent it back so don't even have it anymore . But then it doesn’t record either, so may not be suitable for you.

You will also have to not use any Box Minis you might have been sent, as these use multicast also.

Or I could invoke @naylor2006 who might know how to get your Asus to behave.

Many thanks for the replies . I contacted EE today and told them I would send the pro and the mini back . They intend to send me an apple box . I requested if I can additional box this lead to being put on hold and eventually being cut off. I contacted them back to be told an apple box had been ordered but no mention of the secondary and I have to contact back upon arrival of this box . I don't really need a box as all it means is that I have to use Now TV and discover plus apps to watch the live content via my Google streamer .It's just very unfortunate that the set up didn't work for me even though the adviser stated that these boxes would operate on my network after I told them that I used an Asus router . Thanks again to everyone and let's hope this apple box works for me

The secondary is only ever a Box Mini. As this uses multicast, just like the Box Pro, I think you should avoid using one, as it will just re invoke your bandwidth issues.

Nobody from EETV should have told you that you could use an Asus router in place of the supplied BT or EE router without making it clear that you would need to configure it for yourself, and you would be on your own trying to get it to work 😢

As I use ethernet switches too even if I had the EE router I would had issues with the mini box . In order to get access in my other room I run an ethernet cable from the router to my media room which has multiple devices in such as TV , pc and games console , where I use an ethernet switch to give them access . I presume these boxes require direct connection to the stock router . It's been a total mess to be honest . Perhaps I should have done more research before jumping in . I just presumed that it act like any streaming service , boy was I wrong 😟. I have a reasonable understanding on configuring the router but guess it just wasn't meant to be as use switches too to grant most devices to be wired . I believe sky steam is unicast so perhaps EE will launch some sort of mini box in the future that offers unicast

So basically it wouldn't have mattered what router I was using , it was down to the fact I use ethernet switches that couldn't handle the multicast traffic . Perhaps EE need to have this in writing on their website page regarding their pro and mini boxes to avoid this occuring to others . Had this be made aware to me I could have avoided all this carry just to watch TV. It just seems they want to push product rather than inform people than it could cause issues if you use switches

The product you might have thought that EETV wanted to push was the router, something they don’t charge for.

You may have switches without IGMP snooping, and I might have trouble even with the EETV router if I were to put one of my old switches back into network; but EETV are pretty clear about what they want you to use - kit from them. Not for the revenue, but to avoid losing customers like you (and me!) who might want to go it alone with alternate kit, but who then run into issues they can’t resolve.

But you don’t need a managed switch to get IGMP snooping; the modest £21.99 TP-Link TL-SG105E that Curry’s sell provides IGMP Snooping, and no doubt other similarly priced ones will do the same. So it’s not necessarily a big investment to replace old switches with IGMP compliant ones. And none of the revenue goes to EETV 😛

I'm pretty sure the answer to that is NO.

As for TP-Link units any of the SG105 range will work just fine , just go for the cheapest as there's no need for a managed unit like the SG105E.

If the switches work, then it depends on the Asus being configured correctly, so I would set them up and try things with the Pro Box again, watching something live from the EPG channel 300 up, depending on what you have a subscription to.

If it still floods, then let the swap proceed.

If all is OK, ring 150 and explain. Worst that happens is you still get a return bag for the Box Pro, into which you can pop the Apple box with a further explanatory note.

(You could test all this even before the new switches arrive, if it’s feasible for you to take the existing ones offline for a bit while you try it).
