EETV picutre quality better on Apple tv

Does anyone know if the picture quality is better throught EETV box pro or via the Apple tv i currently have the box pro but struggling to see a good quality on sky sports and normal HD programs so trying find a resolution to it

I have both. With HD content, all other things being equal, I’d expect similar PQ on the same shows, tho switching from one to the other on my OLED,I get a slight creamy tint from my Apple puck.

Above HD, the EE Pro 4k box supports high quality audio up to Dolby Atmos, but no HDR on the video side. The little Apple box does Dolby Vision *and* Atmos. Plus, and this is a major plus for me, I can use it to stream my Apple Music subscription in up to Spatial Audio. Old school hifi it might not be, but I like it.

Both connect over Ethernet then to our Fibre 900 so I’ve done as much as I can. Both link to our 7.1 system via high quality HDMI cables.

Suffice it to say I use the little Apple box more than the Pro, especially on Apple’s own content.

Ohh okay i dont know wether i need better quality tv or not i just dont find the HD channels that good in picutre quality so i didn't know if apple tv is better picutre quality

I find it equal to, or superior, esp on Apple’s own content. There is that “tint” tho. Ultimately, the balance depends on the content, the TV, and your eyes.

Yeah i just finding it slightly pixualted and not crisp picutre on hd tnt sport ultimate is ok but normal hd for sky sports and even normal freeview is not a crsip picutre

I’ve always found the output from the EE TV Pro Box ‘soft’, so I set it at 1080p and let the TV (an LG OLED), do the upscaling, which gives me the best picture I can get out of it.

Changing to 1080p impacts some app viewing, but I don’t use the apps on the box apart from iPlayer occasionally, which still switches to HLG HDR for UHD content, even with the output set at 1080p.

Crucially, TNT Sport Ultimate in the TV Guide also still outputs UHD HDR as well.

What a shame the Beeb only put out 2.0 stereo with their UHD stuff. My AVR can chip in downstream but 🤷🏼

Yeah guess soft is the right word i see you have a more premium brand tv than mine so that could be a factor but i felt when i had sky previously it was still a good picture even with normal hd so when i switched i noticed straight away ill try doing that see if i notice a difference but i noticed more when its for example football darts even itv live shows

Agreed.

Your choice is Stereo and 720p on the Apple TV 4K or Stereo and up to UHD HDR on the TV Box Pro (or probably your TV built in app).

That was the frustration when BT/EE at the behest of the BBC stopped recordings on the TV Box Pro in IP Mode and told everyone that they did it “so you would get the best quality and experience”.

For some, the best experience is a broadcast HD recording with 5.1 sound, which iPlayer simply doesn’t deliver.

I had Sky Q and ran them side by side for a while and found the HD picture on Q and the EE TV Box Pro comparable.

The HD picture on Sky Stream is better than Q and the TV Box Pro in my view, more richer, better colour and depth and for me, watching via the NOW app on the Apple TV 4K gives the same quality as Sky Stream.

I do not have an EE supplied Apple TV 4K to test so can’t compare the streams in the EE TV app. Weirdly, I found TNT Sports via discovery+ looked better on Sky Q than the Pro Box or Apple TV 4K.

Ultimately, we all have different set ups and eyeballs so it’s all personal and subjective!

The main motivation for me remains narrowing the broadcast delay on live sports, so with the EE TV Box Pro live channels about 6 seconds behind satellite when I tested, I’ll often take that over a slightly better picture.

I agree with the delay its actually better than i expected to be honest i know its not going to 4k Ultra HD but i think it should be a little bit better i just see like frame drops and pixilated when the cameras moving and i noticed it more with the darts over Christmas wierd dont know wether i need a better brand of TV that can do better job

Perhaps @Todd1234 , maybe just try a new but better quality HDMI cable first?

My OLED is from 2016 and was about £1500, which I have never spent on a TV before and the Wife nearly killed me, but that was just as a new model came out so it was actually closer to £3000 when first released.

It was worth every penny and while it is a clunky interface, the picture quality (the most important thing) is outstanding. I suspect newer panels are even better.

I bought mine privately. It streams up to 4K with HDR and up to Dolby Atmos.

Ha. Our last CRT was a Sony 32”. Award winner in the day, tho PQ crap by today’s standards, and it took 2 of us to lift the b*gger. Cost £1800.

In our little room biggest we can cater for is 55”. Went for an LG 55C3 a yr ago on a JL deal for a £1000. Love the PQ and the style (I have wire OCD so cable management is important to me) but WebOS is clunky IMO, and just after we got it the C4 came out and was regarded as a big improvement tho nearly a grand more.

In tellys, if it’s in the shops, it’s obsolete, and an improved version will be round the corner 🤷🏼

No, it’s just iPlayer that is capped at 720p on any Apple TV. Again, the upscaling is excellent so most people don’t notice.

Agreed that WebOS is awful!

That is another plus for the Apple TV 4K, usability and the lack of adverts are massive bonuses, plus they are so over specced for what they do, the shelf life is very good.
