Will EE TV Box Pro only work with Smart Hub routers?

Trying to replace my old BT TV Box, I've not had a subscription for about a decade, I just buy used BT boxes on ebay. Looking at EE/BT Box Pro on ebay to replace. There are two models: the older oval BT box and the new rectangular EE box. The EE site shows the latter with the warning that it only works with smart hub routers "EE TV Box Pro is only compatible with Smart Hub or Smart Hub 2".

I have a Vodafone router. Any chance that they have actually altered the software so it will only work with Smart Hub routers? Ie should I be looking for the BT Box Pro to ensure compatibility?

Solved. Sent EE Box Pro by CEX accidentally (ordered BT Box Pro). It works perfectly with my Vodafone router, did not have to alter a thing.

@harrysnotter22 It might work up to a point but not everything will work. EE tv only works if you have a subscription to the service for a start.

That’s pretty much all of it. Go to the channels in your EPG between 300 and 600.

Are there any? Can you get any of them? If so, can you record them?

Or you could try using it without an aerial. Do you then get any channels below 300?

Those are the features that EETV brings.

Sure it does everything else you want, probably, like those of us who have been using YouView boxes for years outside of BT TV and now EETV have found 😛
