Data Channels (e.g. ChannelBox)

Just upgraded to the EE TV Pro box and very happy so far, but cannot access any data channels (e.g. ChannelBox) even though I am connected to the internet. I remember having this problem on my old Humax DTR2120, but I assumed the new boxes would be compatible.

Am I missing something?

Only that the YouView leopard does not change its spots, and all sorts of minor annoyances that we had from the DTR-T2000 onwards continue into the Box Pro and the Box Mini, including this one.

And even the fixing of old ones, like not being able to pair the remote with a particular box, bring new issues, when your TV isn’t made by the people whose badge is on the front 😢

The youview system does not support the standard that the hybrid Freeview channels support.

It was wishful thinking on your part that this had changed since you were last a customer with BT.

Neither is Talking Pictures, but I can watch it at will on my Box Pro, which is in Aerial Mode.

The list you cite is just the cut-down channels that are available in IP Mode.

Yes, I can get Talking Pictures et al direct from my TV w/out having EE TV or indeed anything of EE's. Indeed I can even stream some of its progs.

And that is exactly what @dave_sussex is referring to here.

Freeview enables channels to appear in its TV Guide and then load internet delivered content via MHEG or HbbTV when selected, neither of which are, or ever have been supported by a YouView based BT or EE TV box.

If you plug an aerial in an EE TV Box Pro will let you access ‘normal’ Freeview aerial channels and EE delivered IP channels only.

But because in aerial mode these MHEG/HbbTV channels appear in the guide, it often leads to confusion. If you want to access them, you need to use an appropriate “true” Freeview device like many TVs.

That's right! I do have & am referring to a true Freeview TV w/out depending on anything of EE TV.

I took the reference to the internet to be @dave_sussex covering that he knew these channels required the internet. I did not extrapolate from that that he had no aerial, and was in IP Mode.

And my point was not that I could get the Talking Pictures channel on a non-EETV device - it was that I can get the Talking Pictures channel on an EETV device, namely a Box Pro in Aerial Mode.

I imagine that we all have smart TVs which will perfectly well show us all those data channels if we want them, and wonder why YouView boxes make such a fuss about them, and can’t show them, except for a couple of them, which makes me think it can do MHEG at least 😛

Hi All, sorry for the confusion.

I am in aerial mode, not IP mode. So I can see all the Freeview channels that my aerial can pick up. I think the answer is what @Profile closed gave - the boxes are not compatible with the Freeview data channels.
