There isn't an EE Smarthub 2 but there is a BT Smart Hub 2. So what router do you have (read its label or post a pix)? Which BB plan are you on including its speed?

Hello, new customer here. We’ve just taken out the Full Works package. We have a TV Box Pro downstairs and it’s all working just fine. I was expecting to get a Mini Box to use in our bedroom but that didn’t materialise so I rang customer services. I then got a bit baffled with science when I was told my broadband is with BT (despite my router having EE written on it and my WiFi coming up as EE xxxxxxx) and therefore I’ll have to pay an extra £10 per month to have a Mini Box. I left Sky after 12 years to try and reduce costs and finding the Full Works for £78 certainly achieved that, however, I don’t really want to see my costs with EE sneaking upwards already. Apparently I’ll be able to access most of what’s on offer thru various apps which I have installed on the TV upstairs but I would still prefer to have a Mini Box. Anyone got any thoughts on this?

Maybe i can help?

To whom do you pay your bill? BT or EE.

If BT then the minihub does come chargeable

If EE then it comes free as an incentive too swap to EE. This is because BT wants to move retail customers to EE.

So why did they not move you to EE?

Do you have a landline? If yes then the EE VOIP does not work very well and you are better off with BT for the time being. I know this from personal experience.

Don't be tempted to buy one yourself. It will not be provisioned at the BT end to work correctly. Each time you use it it will want to swap from main box to mini and vice versa. Not worth the hassle in my opinion.BTW the minibix doesn't record and won't play your recorded programmes from the EETV box pro

Thanks for your helpful reply. We pay BT but we’ve literally only just changed our BB with them. We got rid of the landline, they sent us a new EE Smarthub 2 and a WiFi disk, this was within the last couple of weeks. As a result of that BB discussion, we took out the EE TV package, so I’m a bit disappointed that they didn’t just move us over to all things EE as part of that process, then we could have had a Mini Box for free. Do BT/EE customer services follow this forum? If so, feel free to contact me if you think you can help with this. Many thanks again Dephead2004.

"Fibre 2 Complete WiFi" is a BT BB plan. You shouldn't be paying £78 pm for that. A 40 Meg plan shouldn't cost much more than £30 . N.B. I'm talking about just BB prices not incl.TV.

However the router looks like the EE Smart Hub (2023) (SH20A). Does it have that model no. on its underside?

Which WiFi disk have you been sent (read its label or post a pix)? Is its model no. the SW10A?

We’re not paying £78 for the BB, We’re paying £78 for the EETV Full Works Package.
Yes, you’re quite right about the router (Smart Hub S20A) The WiFi disk looks like a BT asset to me, its model no. Is WE410443-SA(6DX) I’m getting more confused now, seem to have an EE Router and a BT Disk.

Yes, what you seem to have is a BT 40 Meg BB plan supplied with a 2023 EE Smart Hub which in fact is a EE badge-engineered version of the BT Smart Hub 2 & so is compatible with BT Complete WiFi discs.

Getting back to your original query, your EE TV is separate contract & terms from your BT BB.

It’s not to do with who you get your broadband from.

If you buy a Box Mini for yourself, there is no issue with it ‘not being provisioned correctly’ except that you don’t get multiroom - really, that’s what you are paying for with the Box Mini subscription, as you can pick the box up online through a grey channel for about £20.

If you have EE TV billed through EE you get the mini box free of charge.

The only way that I know of to do this is migrate your broadband and TV to 'New EE' and then claim the free mini box to use on an additional TV.

You would need to call EE and ask to migrate your existing BT package including EE TV to the newer EE package.

I think the confusing element is that when you sign up via BT the TV package is EE TV rather than BT TV.

The key is that you are still using a BT SH2. They are good and as remarked above quite compatible with the badge engineered EE smart hub router. It's the EE Smart hub plus ( or maybe pro as well, don't know about this) that seems to cause problems with DV. Of you tried as I did to use an EE smart hub plus then DV needs to be reconfigured at the server end. Maybe WiFi coverage would be better as it's WiFi not 5 but I couldn't handle them stress and reverted to the trusty BTSH2 work 4 black WiFi complete discs. These incidentally are incompatible with three EESHplus and you will need new ones from EE if you change to the EESHplus. It's all a bit of a mess

This is a right old pickle @BHA-Chris.

BT have been sending out EE branded kit for nearly 12 months now, so it is a lottery what you get, but most of it is interchangeable until you get a EE Smart Hub Plus upwards.

But you won’t get one of those until you move all of your services and billing to EE.

As I understand it, there are no termination fees for migrating from a BT contract to an EE one, as that is exactly what they want you to do, so I would be tempted to pop into a BT/EE store if possible and look to get that move officially done.

They should be able to help facilitate it and by doing so, you will be on the correct “Full Works” package to take a free mini box.

Oh and then, you will actually be an EE customer. Right now, you are still with BT.
