Hi,

We are experiencing low signal quality on the tv pro box (both boxes we have been sent) and our previous bt pro box too. Signal strength is good, around 90 to 100 percent but quality is poor at around 20 percent (max 30 percent)

The odd thing is that a bt engineer left me with a bt 4k uhd box and with the same cables and set up it shows 100 percent quality on every channel. I have tried an old youview box which also shows 100 percent quality.

Pulling my hair out as to why the pro box would be giving such poor quality vs the non pro box.

Thanks

Ian

Give it a Factory Reset, and if that doesn’t fix it, ask EETV to check it out remotely from possible replacement.

Hi Midnight_Voice

Thanks for the reply. Yes, it's in aerial mode

I had purchased a attenuator and reduced the signal strength down from 100 to around 85 but the quality is still very low but only on the pro boxes. No problem with the non pro ones.

I have also tried a few resets and nothing changes unfortunately, it's consistently low quality.

I would suspect a faulty box, however, we have had 3 (one older bt one) and two new EE ones and they are all the same.

The issue happens when you swap a Pro box onto the exact aerial cable that is fine with an earlier box, rather than using two different aerial cables/routings, and just assuming that you don’t have a setup where some aerial cables are good, and others aren’t?

If you haven’t tried physically swapping a Box Pro with one of the earlier boxes while keeping all the wiring the same, try that now and report back.

As it’s not just a passive loopthrough; some amplification of the input aerial signal is involved.

Thanks for the ideas, I have run through them all to no avail. Tried different cables, tried recording with everything turned off. Issue still remains. Channels that are showing 100 quality on the older box are unwatchable on both box pro boxes.

Unless I am incredibly unlucky and have two bad boxes it must be something different with the tuners on the pro not liking my setup. Bizarre.

EE broadband instead of BT broadband, presumably, but why new boxes? Did you have older boxes than the Box Pro and Box Mini before?

At least, I presume you now have a Box Pro and a Box Mini. The Box Mini will be in IP Mode, but is the Box Pro in IP Mode also?

And did you get an EE router, or stay with the BT router?

And is it that your apps are OK on these boxes, but the live channels aren’t? Because it sounds like it might be a multicast issue - do you ever see error codes, like IPC6023?

If so, then the fact that it works a bit, rather than not at all, indicates the issue is on your premises. Might you be trying to run some non-EETV network kit, such as a mesh system? Multicast demands either an all-EETV network setup, or a deal of technical knowledge to make non-EETV kit play nice with multicast.

Hey there @leemac73, welcome to the EE Community!

I can see you've mentioned having a TV aerial connected to your Pro box, have you checked to make sure this is definitely in Aerial mode?

It seems very odd that both boxes would be having the same issue if one is connected via aerial, and the other via internet.

You can find details on how to check the mode you're in and change this on our help guide here.

I have had this exact same problem. Impossible to record anything and we resort to watching via streaming.

Really frustrating. Will send the box back as soon as the contract ends and get a recorder..

Hi,

did you ever find a solution to this problem?

I have just switched to EETV and EEfibre with pro box and am getting 100%signal strength but only around 20% signal quality. Previously had talktalk internet with youview box which worked completely fine no problem with signal/channels. Plug the pro box in using same aerial and 100% strength and 20% quality
