EE, lead consumer brand for the BT Group, and Sky today announce a new retail partnership that will see Sky Stream launch across EE stores, via the EE website and EE telesales from Tuesday 15th October.
The partnership builds on a longstanding relationship since 2017 and forms part of EE’s strategy to partner with leading consumer electronics and entertainment providers to offer customers a wide range of options. It will allow customers to order Sky TV products with EE’s home broadband. It also forms part of Sky’s strategy to provide the best entertainment experience and the UK’s most talked-about TV to every home.
Introducing Sky Stream will enhance the EE TV portfolio, giving customers a choice of viewing platform. Sky Stream will be available to purchase from EE both with EE home broadband and mobile.

Well we knew something was on the horizon.

Will be interesting to see if anything happens with the entertainment packages through Now TV or EE IP mode as EE TV obviously has less free to air channels than Stream, or if it is going to run along side it and muddy the waters more.

EE will say officially that it “widens customer choice etc.”, but the writing has been on the wall since they sold BT Sport that EE do not want to invest in or maintain expensive hobbies like TV channels or platforms.

Much easier to “clip the ticket” and sell someone else’s product or service while you focus on your core broadband and mobile network. Just read literally anything that Marc Allera says.

EE TV is toast. Not for a while, but it is the next logical step IMHO. Cue people saying “no it isn’t”… 🤣

I work for the TV division of BT/EE - we've not been made aware of any plans to end EE TV. We were told about this Sky deal a while ago, and the reasons for it - none of which were us giving up on EE TV. In fact, we have plans that take us into the next few years (me leaving BT is for personal reasons, not related to the product).

... though it's fair to say we weren't told about the decision to sell off BT Sport until the media started rumours about it. So who knows.

Oh good another service Legacy EE Broadband customers probably wont be able to take up because they still haven’t fixed the ordering system over a year later.

I don’t know why fixing the ordering systems isn’t seen as a priority so we can actually buy these new services.

When you say legacy EE Broadband @Fuseonic , I assume you mean you have more than 90 days remaining of your legacy EE Broadband contract? This is the only scenario I'm aware of that won't allow you to move.

Yep, I have about 18 months left on the contract. Surely if you can do it at the end of the contract it’s only a business decision preventing it happening earlier as I’m assuming it requires the early repayment charges being waived.

You won’t have any issues with the ordering system @Fuseonic because, apart from an initial interaction with EE, everything is done through Sky.

More info when it goes on sale next week.

I must be missing something here - but why would someone choose to order Sky Stream through EE, rather than through Sky itself? What's the upside to the consumer of ordering Sky Stream through EE?

Anything other than just having a single bill (mind you, since I switched TV and mobile from BT to EE I've gone from one bill to two (albeit two bills from EE) ...?

I’m presuming that EETV will lend you the puck rather than sell you it, giving you a small upfront saving, hoping that you can’t do the long-term maths any better than with their other offerings.

If you go through Sky to get Stream they also loan you the equipment and wipe the upfront cost/setup fees. You have to be kind of unlucky to pay anything upfront with Stream- I’ve had it twice and never paid anything upfront.

Personally I feel EE’s broadband offering is superior to Sky’s (WiFi 7, higher speed guarantees etc) however Stream has the edge over EE TV due to the number of additional channels available so the two could go nicely hand in hand.

Who knows- too early to guess I suppose.

I still feel you’ll get the best stream deal via Sky directly as when I joined the deal was significantly less than the equivalent on the Sky website.

For example I paid around £40 a month for Sky Sports, UHD add-on and Multiroom whereas the same deal on the website was over £50 a month…

I think it's more about education - letting customers know that it's possible to have Sky Stream on EE broadband. We'll sell you phone, broadband, and mobile, and offer you Sky Stream if EE TV doesn't meet your needs.

The one box / service / provider / bill to rule them all still feels a bit elusive. EE are getting close though - I think EE through AppleTV would pretty much get there (for me) once (if) NOwTV ultraboost is delivered. Everything on one bill can be terrifying though ....

Maybe it is just me, but I don’t see having all my services on one bill as any kind of benefit over getting the best service for the best price that suits my needs.
