My old BT box died recently, and I took delivery of a shiny EE Pro box.

My problem is that the old box had audio out connections for the rather old Sony home theatre audio I use, and the new one doesn't.

My problem is compounded by the face that my TV appears to only support HDMI audio out, but my Sony doesn't have an HDMI port; it does have a SCART, but that doesn't seem to do anything.

The outputs on the TV don't seem to marry up with any of the ports on the speakers.

All and ny assistance would be greatly appreciated; many thanks in advance

Looks like you have an optical audio out on the tv. So just use that to connect to your surround sound. You will need a cable like this: https://amzn.eu/d/clNwYb2

@Whittin1706 @Mosyahs Unless the audio equipment as an optical link that will not work and I cannot see one on it ( not a great picture) but what you can get is an optical to analog converter like this one

this comes with everything you need

Optical cable from the TV to this box then your phono leads from this box to your surround sound. Just add power from the usb port from the back of the TV to the box to power it.

you might even be able to get the sound from the TV to the audio equipment via a scart lead. I remember doing this years ago and you do have scart ports on both. It just depends if the audio equipment will except audio in via scart.

This is the same as the one I linked too. Same board just in a different housing. Not that it matters, both will work.

What’s the model number of your Sony home theatre, and of the TV?

Then we can read the manuals, see what the SCART supports.

Pretty certain it’s a SCART In on the AV unit though, which can be connected to from the TV, as a SCART Out there wouldn’t make a whole lot of sense.

When checking this, make sure you are using a fully wired SCART cable though, not a one-way one.

It looks like a Sony DAV-SB100 (aka HCD-SB100), which is also a DVD/MP3 Player. If so, that is a SCART out and thus the phono-in is the only option.

Phono is the red and white cables you currently have connected, which used to connect to the old TV Box. I believe @Whittin1706 's solution is the best/only one.

There might be another solution.

The TV has a headphone/line out option (p26)

[Edit, this manual is for the later HDR model, here’s the one for the earlier model, but check your set for a headphone output, which it probably does have]

This could perhaps be used to feed the DAV-SB100 via (probably) a 3.5 minijack to two RCA (phono) plugs, the inputs you were using before.

It depends on what you are used to, to control the volume you are listening at (I’d guess the DAV-SB100 remote), in which case set Line. Or if you want to use the TV remote, set Headphones.

Thank you all - I've been trying to join the fray, but for some reason it refused to authenticate me.

No matter - so are you saying that either one of the boxes you alluded to will work - ie one or the other, not both - or that the SCART may work, and as I have one, should I try first?

I’m going to assume you have a Box Pro. Yes?

This has a socket on the back labelled SPDIF. This is the sole labelling or description of it given in the User Guide.

I’m also going to assume that this does what it ought to do given the name, which is to supply the audio from the Box Pro as digital Optical. Have a peek in this output when the box is on. If it is lit up, that is promising.

The SS1100 has a couple of Optical inputs, labelled Opt In Sat and Opt In Video 2/BD. Choose one, it doesn’t matter which, and connect it to the SPDIF output with an Optical cable, S/PDIF type not Phono type. If you have one, great, otherwise they are very cheap to buy.

Play the Box Pro, connected by HDMI to the TV, with the TV volume turned right down or even muted - though don’t mute the Box Pro - and connected by Optical to the Sat connection as above, with the SS1100 set to the Sat input.

Adjust the volume to taste.

Issues you may find are that the video and audio are a bit out of sync, and/or that you can only control the volume with the SS1100 remote; but do the above and report back if it works at all, and we can fine-tune it, if necessary, once we know what we are working with.

Is there any reason, historical or otherwise, why you only ran the Box Pro’s predecessor into the SS1100, and not all of the audio from the TV?
