Hi,

Is it possible to subscribe to EE tv without the broadband packages? We don't have a landline and will never have a decent one due to our rural location but use EE wireless internet which already streams netflix, amazon etc without any issues.

I'm looking to ditch sky tv and this seems to be a decent option.

You don't need a landline with the latest EE New BB Full Fibre packages.

What does BT Wholesale Broadband Availability Checker estimate for your phone number? Post just the whole table and the line above it, blanking out your phone number. If it doesn't recognise your phone number or you don't have one, use the Address Checker.

You're confusing "PSTN" with "landline" @XRaySpeX. Fibre is still considered a "landline" - i.e. a physical line to the property, as opposed to satellite or cellular data.

That was confusing me! I checked that website and BT saying our exchange is not a priority for fibre. To be honest the old phone line we had could barely deal with a phone call never mind internet!

Thanks for Letting me know though. I'll look elsewhere so i can ditch Sky.

Agreed - I've just checked, and you couldn't even sustain a 1Mbps connection at your address @Harper86 .

We're currently rolling out fibre just south of you and plan to start rollout slightly to the east of you soon, so there is a chance we'll get to you eventually. Probably not for at least a year though I'm afraid.

Ahhh shame. I was so so excited when I heard about this new business venture of EE TV. Superb offer and everything I watch on Sky.

Sadly I’m the same, <3mb at my address with the usual suppliers. I have to use a rural satellite option (Quickline).
My EE mobile can only get service via my broadband as the mast mobile signal for all operators is non existent. My BB speeds are a very comfy 200mb+. Sky started out like this in that their initial Sky TV offering had to use their broadband only, then they took a bigger bite of the market once their technology plan shifted. Get a shift on EE PLEASE.

I’m very happy to trial using EE TV on a non EE BB ISP 🙂

I've been looking to get EE TV on my Apple TV, it'd be really nice to have however EE doesn't provide what I need from my broadband. This situation feels like it's purely just for lock-in and is highly anti-consumer.

Where to start?

You won’t get EETV, in any sort of complete way, on your Apple TV. The broadcasters and content providers demand that only specially licensed Apple TV boxes can be used for this, and these special boxes are only available from EETV.

Technically, EETV can only be supplied over EE or BT broadband. Frustrating if the only decent broadband near you is from somebody else, and not just for you, for EETV as well, as it means they can’t sell you a service they would like to.

But it is a restriction EETV have actually looked at, and there is no easy way round it.

But you should not imagine that EETV are anti-consumer; why would they cut off their nose just to spite their face?

Rather, they are as interested as you in overcoming the technical and commercial problems of providing the service more widely; they don’t want that you miss out on EETV any more than you do.

Can I also register my interest. EETV looks like a great service. I wanted to give feedback from a frustrated potential customer, since this thread is extremely disappointing.

There is a good reason I don't want your broadband. According to the website postcode check you won't offer FFTP here for several years. I'm not going to divide my broadband speed by a factor of 15 so I can use your TV, but that's what you expect me to do. So it's not me being picky, you just don't offer modern broadband where I live - and where I live is a large town, so I imagine many people are in this situation.

This feels like a completely arbitrary marketing decision, not a technical one. If Sky can offer TV without their broadband, it's very hard to see why you can't. 😞

It's a combination of technical and contractual.

The simplest way to put it - if we offered EE TV on any connection, the channels you receive would be significantly reduced ... for the same reason that the EE TV app on other platforms can also only offer a reduced set of channels. The channels are there and ready to be streamed, but they're not in the apps as we're not allowed.

I'm not sure what you're implying? If you think trying to pay less is unreasonable, you may be a little out of touch.

I pay virgin around £110 per month for their most basic channels + broadband which is 10-15x faster than the snail's pace you offer, and a phone connection I don't use, but which makes it cheaper. Every year, when challenged, Virgin offers to reduce the cost for my loyalty, then they charge me much more than a new customer, but I'm sure EE does that. You can't avoid that practice. Everyone does it. Anyway...

Soon, another company is coming with 900Mbps symmetric broadband but no TV for £30 per month. I'd like their broadband but I need a TV solution. Sky makes me watch adverts. FreeView isn't viable, the signal here is terrible. Freely's decision to force people to bin their TVs rather than give us an app means I'd need to replace a lovely LG OLED. Maybe not wanting to throw away a really nice TV is a little stingy of me, I don't know. But even if I suck up the cost, and get something worse than what I have, they also don't seem to offer recording, they've gone for the Sky approach.

To be better than Virgin, you need to beat £80 per month for the most basic channels. I assume you could do that if the "significantly reduced" channels mentioned above include the limited set I want. But you don't do it, so it's not worth discussing.
