Remote volume control

Any ideas why my new remote works apart from the volume controls. My old BT remote works ok, but I want to use my new remote and not both.

Hi, try this, point your remote control to your tv press the home button and the number 9 at the same time and wait until your remote flashes three times.

Just got new TV Box Pro, same problem, volume doesn't work. Tried the Home+9, works for all of 3 seconds.

SOLUTION:

1.Go to settings on the EE TV Box Pro

2. Scroll down to 'Connected Devices' and Go to Bluetooth Remote

3.Go to Control Volume and Source - probably set to TV

4. Change to 'Set Top Box'

5. Click 'Done'

Volume control now works without having to constantly reset the remote with Home+9

Have you got your Box Pro set to Stereo in Settings/Audio?

Does your fix still work if you set it to Surround?

Thanks Neil, thanks for taking the time to reply, I did just this yesterday and it works ok. I think it was my understanding of “controls the TV volume” that needed some adjustment. I expected it to control the TV volume in the same way my Sky remote used to. As in, actually put the original TV volume bar on screen. It appears the Box Pro does it a different way. Thanks again.

I’ve kind of resolved my issues. Taken the Sony soundbar out of the loop and everything now works Ok. But now I’ve got no soundbar. This box has been a headache since it arrived, IP and aerial modes, wrong ITV local news channels. And inability to skip ads on ITV which I was unaware of admittedly.

As I asked @NeilPriddey above, can you look in Settings/Audio on your Pro box, and see if it’s set to Stereo or Surround?

As it sounds like it’s set to Stereo; in which case, the remote will work the volume on the Pro box. If the remote were working to control the TV, then the TV would respond exactly as it does to the TV’s own remote.

Disconnecting the soundbar really shouldn’t be necessary to get this to work; it may be an answer, but it shouldn’t be the answer.

IP Mode has few if any advantages for those with a decent aerial on a full Freeview transmitter; HD on channels 1-5 maybe, but otherwise a lot of downsides, as you have found with unskippable ads on itv, the local channel choices it can make and not let you change, limited range of the lesser Freeview channels, and so on.

Hi @Midnight_Voice @Thanks for your responses. I’ve changed the remote setting from tv to box and got the box volume bar, and will have to leave it at that. Changing the stereo/surround setting makes no change. I plugged the box into to the tv directly and got the tv volume bar ok, reset remote, plugged soundbar in and got nothing.
Again, thanks for your help I’ll leave it as it is, life’s too short 🙂

You shouldn’t have done that final reset. The idea was to set the remote for the TV, and then move the Box Pro back onto the soundbar, keeping the remote set for the TV 😢

This is Settings on the Box Pro itself, as displayed on the TV screen; you are quite right there is no Settings button on the remote.

Agreed, this works. The only thing I had to change, was the Stereo v Surround option in the settings.
Go to "Settings" - then "Picture & Sound" and make sure that "HDMI Sound" is set to Stereo.

I had mine set to Surround, and when I pressed the Vol up/down it came up with a message saying -
Currently in surround sound mode I'll assume, it will only work if it is set to Stereo !!!!

WHY ?????

It has always been the case that when you put a YouView box onto Surround sound, the volume on the box goes to maximum and stays there, and everything else you have observed comes from that.

As to why YouView do that, I don’t know, and they have never said; but I would imagine that they found volume-reduced surround sound compromised in some way.

It’s also true that if you select surround sound, you are implying that the sound will be passed through the TV to some sort of surround system (otherwise what’s the point?) and you will want to be controlling the volume there, via the TV, rather than on the YouView box.

See the note to this effect on Settings/Picture & Sound. Though when this note warns that it will disable volume controls on the remote, it didn’t envisage that this would now only be true for Set Top Box in Settings/Bluetooth Remote/Control Volume and Source, and not for TV, when you have your remote programmed to control the TV.

And so, if you choose surround sound, and you want the YouView remote to control the volume, you need to select that it controls the TV, rather than the Set Top Box, in Settings/Bluetooth Remote/Control Volume and Source.

It’s a pity these settings don’t toggle together; but that’s probably because the Box can’t absolutely rely on the remote being able to control the TV, or whatever else might be controlling the audio volume here.

I've been told today that it's because my tv is not compatible with the remote, after replacing it twice. Apparently they don't guarantee this.
