You can get power off it, 5V 1A, enough to charge a phone, but not enough for an iPad.

I don’t know if the port stays live when the box is in standby, though you could suck it and see.

You can’t play anything through it, or from it, though.

Theoretically, it can be used for software updating, but only in the extremely unlikely circumstances that YouView need to send you a specially crafted USB stick to do this from.

My TV Box Pro User Guide refers me to ee.co.uk/help FAQ to find out how to use the USB port. But I cannot find an answer.

If I recall correctly, the only official usage is for accessibility under YouView.

You should be able to use a USB keyboard, but that’s about it…

https://support.youview.com/youview-box/accessibility/accessibility-features/

As I mentioned in my other post I got my tv pro box today and being a hard of hearing person i used to connect my loop system via the rca l/r cables but now i only have one hdmi that goes to tv and no rca port like my old box so really it’s not good at all that bt/ee don’t think about connectivity and/or accessibility for people who needs them to hear their tv box. Shame I’ll have to return this otherwise nice looking box unless someone can show me other possible options.

@Mojo56

I’ve used an HDMI cable to an HDMI splitter, one side onward to the TV, the other side to a component video adapter (and onward via a Slingbox to Spain, though that’s not relevant here, apart from showing what can be done).

If I could do that, then using the same setup but with an HDMI to RCA convertor instead of the adapter I used, you should be able to tap off the audio you want, just as the earlier YouView boxes provided it on the rear.

I don’t think I can recommend bits of kit here - it’s certainly verboten on the BT community - but a website named after a certain long South American river has many examples.

Make sure what you get is a box, as I am very sceptical of cables that claim to do it.

You will need two extra HDMI leads, an HDMI splitter (make sure it’s rated for UHD if your TV is UHD), and an HDMI to RCA splitter box. Note that each splitter may need power, usually via USB, so make sure you can provide this also.

Good luck!
