However, they do offer their own WiFi extenders to create a mesh network. These are compatible with their multicast TV service.

Hi,

I have recently switched to EEtv from sky, and am using a Tenda MX21 mesh, which I understood was compatible with EETV as it has a setting to enable multicast. I had hoped I could get a better setup than with Sky, where I had to use my mesh just in AP mode and keep the sky router as own routers weren't supported by them for FTTP. I therefore had a seperate SSID for the sky boxes from the sky router, and then my mesh with its own SSID for everything else. I have had the tenda set up with a PPPoE connection so far working perfectly, but it won't work for TV even with multicast enabled, I just get an IPC6023 error. I then tried using the smarthub with wifi disabled and the mesh in AP mode, but I still get the same error.

I have got it working, but only by having the smarthub wifi switched on with a different SSID, but this isn't an ideal solution. If anyone has any ideas of what could fix it that would be great.

Unfortunately, as mentioned there isn’t perfect solution.

The EE router can’t be used as a modem, so you’re stuck with two networks and a double NAT, or using a router which supports multicast with mesh (like the supplied EE hub).

One compromise that works for me was to take EE’s Apple TV.

This uses unicast rather than multicast. It does mean you have to sacrifice a Pro TV or second Mini box, but would give you access to the TV service with your current setup.
