Surely it's about the end user and whether it's intuitive to use or not? I don't think the end user would say calling a button 'Back' is obviously the button for stopping recordings.

You've saved one button but it's not the best remote to use, exiting from the Recordings menu for example takes a minimum of two button presses because there's no Exit button.

Back to your original question. I'd expect a Stop button to stop a recording and to stop time lapse, Back stops a recording but doesn't stop time lapse, in fact nothing stops it apart from fast forwarding as far as I know, again not exactly user friendly or intuitive.

You can hold down the Back button - this makes it behave like an Exit button.

I'm not sure what the justification was for removing so many buttons from the new remote, but it's been like that a few years now and isn't going to change I'm afraid.

The old remotes will still work with the new boxes, but are IR-only (not bluetooth).

As @Profile closed says, faster and better, and that’s where the action is now.

On the downside, the remote is short a few buttons, so you have to learn some unintuitive keypress actions to replace them. On the upside, the remote is Bluetooth, so doesn’t need line of sight, and pairs with its box, so you can run two of these side by side and not have the remote working the wrong one.

On the upside, you just pair the remote with the Box Pro while that is connected by HDMI to the TV, and it will suss out the make of TV and program itself for it. On the downside, if it doesn’t recognise your TV, you’re stuck - nothing you can do about it, except go back to an older IR remote, which does still work it.

There’s no SCART output or phono outs on the new box. Besides the HDMI, though, there’s an S/PDIF that might work,

Factory Reset has now been joined by a Keep Recordings option. No more scrabbling for Maintenance Mode.

I’m sure there is other good stuff I have missed - more simultaneous recordings, WiFi connection, HDR and Atmos (but no Dolby Vision), but this and the few other downsides don’t stop this being a big improvement over previous boxes.

Well, after many decades of pointing a remote at something I'm sure I'd probably still do that with a Bluetooth one! My main motivation is because my dtr is frustratingly a bit sluggish, also maybe the 4k will be better but my TV may not support that, I do like that it has 4 tuners as just last night I was unable to record a 3rd programme.

Set it to 1080p output for normal viewing, iPlayer will still output HLG HDR if your TV is compatible.

It sounds like you're saying to turn off 4k, surely I am misunderstanding?
