I have finally got my two tv mini boxes that should have arrived with my original order almost two weeks ago after more than a reasonable amount of phone calls…

I have tried to set one up in the dining room. The router is only in the next room but it won’t pick up the WiFi?! I’ve previously had a Fire Stick in that room that picked the WiFi up without my issue. Are these TV Mini boxes useless?

Hi, @TrickyPig welcome to the community and thanks for posting, I'm sorry to see you're experiencing problems connecting your Mini TV box.

We recommend your EE TV Box Mini is placed 5 metres from your Hub. If it's further away and you're experiencing issues, you may benefit from Smart WiFi or a WiFi booster

Plug one end of your HDMI cable into the purple socket of your EE TV Box Mini (use the cable in the box provided to get the best picture quality).

Plug the other end into the back of your TV.

Plug one end of the power cable into the back of your EE TV Box Mini (you’ll find the power cable in your EE TV Box Mini pack).

Plug the other end into the nearest power socket on the wall.

Press the power button on the front of your EE TV Box Mini to turn it on.

You’ll be guided through the set-up instructions on your EE TV Box Mini.

If you're having issues with your WiFi speed and connection, find out what affects your home broadband and WiFi.

Thanks

Neil

Do the mini boxes need to connect to the smart hub directly? I know the box pro struggles when using say an eero mesh network, but does this also apply to the mini boxes?

I’ve not set mine up yet but did have problems connecting my box pro to the eero network rather than the SH WiFi.

I am trying to connect them wirelessly the same as I did with Amazon Fire sticks, which worked fine. Don’t understand what is stopping them.
EE’s solution is to send a power line adaptor. That’s not ideal as it is another thing to plug in. Will have to see what happens, I suppose.

My EE box mini had been working until yesterday but is not now connecting now by wifi. As is the case with you, the router is only in the next room. My ipad has no problem connecting to the internet in the same room as the EE box mini.

I suspect that these ee box mini s are substandard and not fit for purpose. The change from BT to EE has not been the best and the sevice is not very good.

I found the culprit. I had plugged my Virgin power line into the router and it obviously upset it. Once removed, everything worked fine. Didn’t realise the power line would not be adaptable to the new EE router.

You’ve hit the nail on the head yes they are ‘useless’!

I have recently made the move to EE TV to save money after being with Sky for 24 yrs. I previously had a Sky Q mini box in my kitchen which is in the room next door to the router and it worked fine. We’re on a new build so it’s not like the walls are solid stone. Even with both doors open the mini box can’t detect the router or WPS yet the TV and Firestick both get a full WiFI signal.
To be fair EE have sent me Powerline adapters but with the mini box connected to one of those all I get is regular IPC6023 faults. Plug in another device such as Amazon Fire TV with Ethernet into the same Powerline adapter and surprise surprise it works fine.
So yes these EE TV mini boxes are not fit for purpose and now I’m stuck with them for 23 months.
Worse decision I ever made moving to EE TV.

Neil, so what you’re saying is the EE mini boxes will only work when 5 metres away from the router. I have 2 and a Pro box so for me, my wife and my daughter to successfully watch 3 different programmes simultaneously we would all need to be in the same room on 3 different TVs? The EE mini boxes are not fit for purpose!

This is my set up taken from my community post. I have been dealing with a Customer Service agent called Dawn who has been really helpful. An engineer is coming to my property on Saturday but I can’t see what they will do.
I can’t understand why apps on the EE mini box work fine. The Amazon Fire TV plugged into the same Powerline Adapter also works issue free.

Full fibre 500 mbps.

EE Pro Box directly connected to EE Smart hub 2 with Ethernet. No issues on this box.

TP Link AV1300 Powerline adapter directly connected to yellow lan port on smart hub.

x2 EE TV box minis connected to AV 1300 Powerline adapter ‘receivers’.

All Ethernet cables are Cat5e and have been changed to rule out they are faulty.

When watching live TV on both EE TV mini boxes the programme regularly freezes followed by the fault code IPC6023. This only occurs on live TV all the apps work fine with no issues plus the Amazon Fire TV also works when connected to the same AV1300 Powerline adapter.

I have reset the boxes, reset the Powerline adapters, reset the router, checked for software and app updates, and reconnected the boxes to the automatic broadband connection through settings but still the fault occurs. The Powerline adapters at both ends are plugged directly into the wall sockets and no electrical appliances are nearby that could cause interference.

I have heard about smart wifi but surely this would be more expense which I shouldn’t have to pay. Isn’t it £10 p/m extra?

Why did my Sky Q mini box detect the router when in the same location in my kitchen issue free for several years yet the EE mini box when in the same location won’t even get 1 bar wifi signal.

In my opinion the mini boxes aren’t fit for purpose. If the engineer can’t provide a solution on Saturday I feel there is no other option than to report this to OFCOM so I can come out of my contract early without fee and go back to the superior Sky hardware.

The apps use adaptive streaming - if the speed isn't good enough, they'll drop to a lower quality and continue. The channels are delivered over multicast - if the speed isn't good enough, they stop.

So the powerline adapters aren't fast enough, but that doesn't explain the WiFi signal strength issue. Smart WiFi Plus would almost certainly fix your issue, but you're correct that it costs money.

Maybe the engineer will be able to identify what's causing the WiFi to fail.

I have just switch to EE and everything was working fine with the main pro tv box and the 2 mini tv boxes. Then after my 14 days the mini tv box in the kitchen keeps dropping out. I can watch TV through the TV which is connected to the wifi but cant watch on the Mini box. I can also use my laptop and mobile phones out in the garden whilst connected to the router over 10 metres away. Mini box upstairs is fine. So might have to agree poor equipment EE.

Totally agree.

The EE mini box is useless.

It continually drops WiFi connection. When it stops, it gives different error codes - all of which are pretty meaningless when you search on EE website. It seems to update itself in the middle of programs and goes to a blank screen with no indication of progress.

And I'm also stuck in a contract.

It reminds me of a good idea that the architect has employed a bunch of untrained kids to develop.
