My TV is quite old and no TOSLINK. It's doing brilliantly, almost disappointed it hasn't broken...

So I'm using TOSLINK directly out of the EE box to my DAC.

I design and build my own hifi systems and am familiar with normal output levels. A 1kHz sine wave test tone at full volume puts out 4.1v RMS on pins 2 and 3 of the XLR output at full volume. The recent Beethoven 7th prom played from iPlayer on the Humax is just right for me at 25 on the volume, but the same played from the EE box is too quite at 30 (full)

I suspect there's little I can do about it, but...

The TOSLINK output level seems extremely low. I can't see any way of adjusting it.

SPDIF output is set to stereo. I tried SURROUND but get no signal, not surprising as it's going to a stereo DAC.

Remote is controlling the set top volume.

Output to my DAC varies with volume but maximum is very low.

Are you using the optical output of the box?

Most TVs have an optical output. If yours had got one you might find that using it instead of the box's would give you more volume. Also, you'll probably be able to increase the volume of the optical port in the TV's settings.
