I have a wierd problem with my Chromecast HD connecting to an EE router via an EE extender. The Chromecast keeps giving a notification that it's lost its internet connection when it hasn't (the Chromecast very briefly says 'No Internet' in the status area then the notfication pops up). This message pops up every couple of minutes or so and ruins anything I'm watching but mainky in YouTube. Google doesn't want to know saying it's an EE problem as it doesn't happen when I connect via my phone's mobile hotspot (connected to the same wifi) or if I turn the extender off and connect to the main router (very poor signal as oppsoed to excellent with the extender on). When I look at the device in the router Hub Manager My Network, the device has hundreds of IpV6 GUAs which doesn't happen with other devices....see pics. Anyone come across and resolved this?

Hello

As an update I have had a fault engineer around, not sure what he did but he spent 10 mins, alas the issue still occurred. Ive been sent a replacement extender....again same issue. I am at a loss as to why this is happening.

As a test, I plugged the chromecast HD into my PC monitor so it connects directly to the router and this issue does not replicate. There are no mulitple GUAs as in the pic above....I know the extender it usually connects to may have a lot iof things connected (home automation stuff) but this setup (with no additional devices) has worked for two years. This issue only being a recent thing.

Whats next?

Regards

Shaun

Have you always had this many devices connected to the extenders, or has there been a recent change to how your network is setup that would coincide with the timescales of when you've been noticing these issues?

Have you ever tried moving the location of the extender so it's closer to your main Hub, just to see if this can improve the overall stability?

Thanks Peter

Same number of devices as always. This only started arounf July time. The signal to the router is good according to the EE app (!?) and the Chromecast HD says the signal to the extender is excellent.

There a lot of weird things going on on the networking side.....the router says I have a number if wired devices when they are actually connected to extenders....

As I say the streaming doesn't stop on the Chromecast HD it just keeps telling me its lost the internet connection every 4-5 mins...it's disrupting my enjoyment lol.

Shaun

This does seem to be an issue specifically with Chromecast HD connecting with EE Smart Wifi Plus extenders. i've test it now directly linked by wifi to the router and both of my extenders. Could I ask you to please email me at eetvsupport@ee.co.uk with details on how best to contact you (contact number and email address), and also include the Mac address of the device you're seeing this issue on, and they'll do some further digging before getting in touch.

Edit: one other request - could you please reproduce the issue, and make a note of the exact time you see one of the popup messages. Include that in the email, so that he can narrow down the logs.

Edit 2: it would also be useful to know if turning off IPv6 fixes this issue for you (just temporary - long enough to prove it one way or the other). Change the IPv6 allocation mode to Off.

The one that it is presenting to the hub - although that would also be a good test, to confirm whether turning off randomisation fixes the issue (e.g. if the hub is somehow making the Chromecast think it's changing network, causing it to generate a new Mac address - this would explain the multiple IPs).

I am not marking this as a solution as its pretty much the nuclear option but in the end the issue seemed to be around my very dodgy FTTC connection. I have gone full fibre and the issue has stopped (as of the last two weeks...fingers crossed). YouTube in particular must have been very sensistive to my unstable copper to the cabinet connection and kept thinking the connection was down frequently.

Anyway thanks for all the comments and assistance from the product experts.

Shaun
