Text messages are also free to receive globally, so it's better for you to text your girlfriend's UK number at no additional cost to either yourself or her. Texting her Canadian number would be chargeable for yourself.

For her to reply, the opposite most likely applies - messages are free for you to receive, but she would likely pay extra for international numbers.

Hi,

I am looking at cutting out on my technology usage. Most specifically my phone so considering using an old phone with nothing installed. However the only issue is that my girlfriend is currently traveling in Canada so we communicate via Whatsapp mostly. Ideally would be better to text so I can use "dumbphone". I have received mix messages from people regarding if that is going to cost me to text her Canadian number.

My contract is unlimited everything.

Anyone got any ideas?

If your plan has unlimited messages then the only difference would be if your sending the text to a UK or Canadian mobile number.

Text messages to international numbers are chargeable however if you are sending to her UK number, your plan would allow this.
