Australia Trip - Had SIM Setup & Roaming Issues - How Did You Solve It?

I am also going to Australia later this year and I am on a PAYG . Would you recommend changing it to a contract. are there short SIM only contracts?

Could you let me know how this went for you? I went to Australia for a Month in 2024 and had a lot of trouble setting up a new sim on my phone, but roaming also did not work. How did you solve it in the end?

@s0phie00 : That's to be expected! A new SIM needs 1st activating on EE's UK network before it can be used abroard.

Roaming costs are outlined at https://ee.co.uk/help/mobile/roaming/roaming-costs > Australia. With PAYG you only have the option of paying per-minute for calls or per-text message.

With pay-monthly, you have the option of paying a flat-rate of £5/day or £25/week for access to your UK allowances. That will mean your calls within Australia & back to the UK will come out of your bundle allowance, incoming calls will be free, and you can access your UK data & text allowances. It won't take long for that to pay for itself!

Hi. I bought a Telstra SIM card and a data, SMS and call bundle which lasted a month. It was very good value, less than 10 AUS dollars. There was no EE roaming deal.
