Did she receive a Welcome text upon arrival?

Is she on contract or PAYG? Had she used that SIM for making calls or texts in UK before leaving to go abroad?

If she is on contract, did she activate roaming on her EE a/c before leaving UK by texting ROAMING to 150? Having a roaming billing add-on doesn't of itself activate roaming on your a/c. Having roaming activated on your EE a/c, not just on your device, is crucial to using your contract SIM abroad.

Often just rebooting the phone is the simple remedy. Also try selecting a network manually rather than auto.

Otherwise if she is on contract she needs to call CS to get her roaming activated. Try calling CS on the Freephone no. in my sig. using a web-calling app over WiFi.

If your loved one can receive texts, then she has a local network connection and is thus roaming - I don't think the advice in the previous post takes full account of this. By the same token, if she can send messages, then the same must apply.

If your loved one sends a message to her own number, does she receive it?

PAYG not set up for roaming can sometimes receive free texts.

W/out knowing exact circumstances we must try & cater for every eventuality.

"By the same token, if she can send messages" mentioned in my response.

As always, it's almost impossible for end users to provide too much detail in posts. Too little, very easy to achieve.
