Can’t text abroad

I am currently in Australia and in order to keep my UK number I need to send a text from the number once every month. Each time I have tried to send a text from my UK number to another Uk number it is undelivered. I am also not able to text or call EE customer service.

Your need to send a text to keep your no. (it does not need to be as frequently as once per month) must be to keep a PAYG SIM out of hibernation.

Had you previously topped it up?

Had you used that PAYG SIM for making calls or texts in UK before going abroad? To be used abroad EE PAYG SIMs need 1st activating on EE's home UK network. If it wasn't you can't now use it until you return to UK.

You've not said but I'll ask - was this a migration from pay-monthly?

No I’ve not used it abroad before. I switched from a pay monthly to pay as you go before I left.

I topped it up before I left. It was a switch from a pay monthly to pay as you go. I did use the sim before I left and came to Australia.

How did you use it? Did you make calls or texts in UK after it became PAYG before going abroad?

When was your SIM moved to PAYG? It takes 30 days notice to cancel a contract & before it is moved to PAYG. Had that change taken place while abroad you can't now use it at all while abroad. To be used abroad EE PAYG SIMs need 1st activating on EE's home UK network. If it wasn't you can't now use it until you return to UK.
