So we are going to France for 14 days, I can't work out what my charges are going to be. Also why offer daily, 7 days, 12 days. How on earth did EE decide that 12 days was a good idea, the cynical part of me is thinking this is all about making more money off our backs.

The new package is definitely not better value for money, I've been with EE/Orange for about 30 years. Might consider leaving them after this contract finishes.

The daily charge within the EU is the fallback position if you either don't choose an alternative or don't have an add-on within your plan.

7 or 12 day passes are available as optional, offering savings on multiple daily rates. Users who regularly travel will often benefit from having a plan with inclusive roaming.

Doesn't answer the question. We used to have have the option of 14 days or a month, 12 days really? And nothing beyond that,,so the only option is to change your plan which you can't then revert to the original one.

For Pay Monthly customers the only options previously were 1 month (via the Roam Abroad Pass) or paying the daily rate.

In the new structure, you could take a 12 day pass and then pay the daily rate for the 2 remaining days.

In terms of changing your plan - there is a value judgement to be made there based on the additional cost of a plan with inclusive roaming (Essentials Plus/All Rounder for EU, Full Works for EU & ROW Zone 1), as opposed to how often you travel and how long for.

To say there is no option but to change your plan is false.

12 days is a ridiculous number, so forces you down paying multiples of 7 days. This change has not made things better it has made them worse for the customer.

Nice one EE on providing a quality value for money service that the customer wants. This change is a retrograde step.

When I check what my roaming charges will be for my plan with EE One EE Essentials Unlimited, with EU roaming add on, it throws me down the daily, 7, 12 route.

It doesn't indicate clearly that I can use my phone in France, with current plan rates.

Because you cannot.

This is only included on Essentials Plus and above. This is the plan above your current and should cost approximately £3pm more on an EE One plan.

You may want to read my previous response again in regard to roaming passes: you can purchase a 12 day pass and then pay the daily rate for the 2 remaining days. This works out cheaper than 2x 7 day passes.

So how do I upgrade my plan to Essential Plus, can't find a way to do it, either through the app or the website. I will be doing travel to Southern Ireland quite regularly as well, so upgrading to essentials plus is a better route.

There are no roaming charges applicable for usage in the Republic of Ireland - "roam like home" applies there at no cost without regard for plan or add-on.

Roaming in the Republic of Ireland is free of charge for all EE Customers, likely due to the presence of Northern Ireland as part of the UK and the implications of roaming charges within the island of Ireland.

Provided you are on a SIM Only plan and not Flex Pay, in the EE App you should be able to simply go to Manage > Mobile & SIMs > Upgrade Now (after choosing the number from the dropdown above if there are multiple on the account) and then choose the appropriate EE One SIM Only on a 1-month rolling contract.

If you are on Flex Pay with an EE One Airtime plan it may not be possible to change your plan while your Flex Pay balance is still present on the account - but could be worth contacting Customer Services to double check there's nothing they can do.

Our posts crossed Matt. You're absolutely right about some of the underlying reasons.

Inadvertent roaming in border areas is unavoidable, there's a few threads on this board where users report it occurring around Kent & the SE (France), north & mid-Wales (Ireland & occasionally Manx) and a couple of other locations.

Specifically around Northern Ireland/RoI, network planning simply cannot keep each country's coverage within its own borders and there is much cross-border overlap between the different country's operators.

Before anyone asks... handover between international operators is a whole other level of complicated!

Indeed, there are some areas within the boundary of Northern Ireland (particularly south of Newry in County Down in my experience) where quite often you can be roaming on Eir or Three Ireland while technically within the UK.

At other times closer to the border you can sometimes be left flicking back and forward when using automatic selection, or at other times entirely without a connection for minutes despite both home network and roaming networks being available.

A slight mess to put it nicely.
