4G calling now working in Croatia!

I have been doing some travelling around Europe and out of the 4 countries I have been to so far, France, Switzerland, Italy and Spain. Croatia has been the first that has had working 4G calling using the HT HR Network. This is a positive step forward for EE and hopefully we can see some more countries getting 4G calling soon!

I believe it largely depends on the Roaming agreements that EE have with their overseas partners.

There are cases where there is no VoLTE access for roaming EE Customers in locations where the tech has been supported domestically for some time, and even where other UK MNOs already support it.

As an example of another positive, EE offering VoLTE in the USA on AT&T in 2022 as a result of their 3G switchoff while another UK network was not ready for this at the time.

It takes two to tango. It requires a commercial agreement between the two networks, and a joint technical solution put in-place.

This is music to my ears. I’ve been lamenting the lack of VoLTE roaming (or 4G calling) for quite some time. Nothing more frustrating than losing your data connection because you need to make a phone call.

I had actually heard that EE had started rolling this service out but can’t imagine they’re shouting about it. They were the same with 5G roaming as in no mention of it on the website but absolutely blowing the completion out of the water when it comes to the number of 5G roaming agreements they had in place.

It’s great to read you’re seeing the benefit in Croatia. I read on a different forum that someone reported getting 4G calling on TIM in Italy and on Movistar and Orange in Spain.

The delay in roll out has been down to EE, as you said @Matt_124, other UK carriers have offered it for quite some time.

But I don’t care, I’m sure the roll out will continue until we get to the point where we can’t remember life before it! 😀

This was the reason for me posting this! I understand there's lots of different factors to making VoLTE work abroad but it is just nice to see EE quietly introducing this like they did with 5G Roaming and have it working so well!
