Roaming in EU: travel passes

My parents will be using their EE phones in the EU and we're a bit confused about how the various travel passes work

To confirm, the £2.59 daily charge without a pass is applied as soon as a phone is switched on/connected to an EU network? It doesn't require a device to actually make or receive a call/text or use mobile data? Just be turned on?

Secondly, to buy a pass you need to follow the link from the welcome text after arriving in the EU/connecting to an EU network. Is there any way of purchasing these passes before departure? Or does it have to be done after arrival. Also do the passes "transfer" from country to country (i.e. if you buy a travel pass in France it'll still work in Denmark/Norway)?

Finally, the passes are for 7 days however my parents trip is for 14. Is it possible to buy two passes at the start of the trip or do you have to wait for the first pass to expire before buying a second

Thanks for reaching out to us here on the community.

You can get Roaming Help here it all depends on what tariffs your parents are on, soe of the contracts include EU Roaming as an exclusive extra.

Both numbers with need to ensure roaming is activated before they go, they can do this by texting Roam to 150.

It's also a good idea to ensure there is no spend cap on both number too.

Do you know if your parents have access to their online account? They can check and change the spend cap there.

The £2.59 daily charge is only made on the days, when you don't have the weekly roaming pass, you actually make or receive a call, send a text or use mobile data. It's not charged for just connecting to the network.
Hence you don't get charged for receiving the text offering you the weekly roaming pass, but you can only buy this while abroad, not in advance in UK.
The weekly roaming pass covers the whole of the EU.
You buy a 1 week pass on arrival & when it expires you'll again be offered by text to buy another.
As @Ritu_D pointed out your parents' plan might already include EU roaming. In which case 1-4 above won't apply to them.
