I'm perhaps being a little premature asking for information as this doesn't take effect until next month but I'm wanting to check my understanding of the Roaming Refresh that's coming soon...

Roaming Refresh (click link for changes) seems to be a case of the £25 a month being scrapped. The EU roaming option seems to be either the daily charge or it needs to be an inclusive extra.

The Zone 1 now includes more countries and will cost £25 per week rather than per month. The good thing is, that too can be an inclusive extra if your plan includes it. This is the part that appeals to me as there's some good countries on there (for me) and the EE roaming service is pretty good. I got good coverage in South Africa last year, just couldn't afford to use it. This charges that.

My question though, my current plan, I have Roam Further as my inclusive extra. Do I now have to choose between one of the above options. As in I can change it to Zone 1 and have to pay for any EU roaming. Or change to EU roaming included but have to pay £25 a week instead of a month when I go further afield.

Hi @_MrR_,

With the Roaming Refresh there will be two separate inclusive extras to choose between, one covering the EU Zone and one covering Zone 1. So depending on which zone you were travelling in you can switch to which inclusive extra will cover you.

Alex

Thanks @Alex_H

So what I'm taking from this is that I'll need to switch my inclusive extra based on my travel plans. I'm absolutely fine with that (in fact I'm more than OK as the new Zone 1 contains a host of countries I travel to regularly to), I suppose the only downside could be if you can only change the inclusive extra once a month. There are months where I'll be in the EU and also in Zone 1 within the same month.

If you can only change the add on once a month, that may be a pain.

Overall though, for me - still a win. I'd take the hit on paying for EU roaming periodically in return for being able to roam for free (as part of my selected inclusive extra) in South Africa, UAE, the States and Qatar.

It's not an inclusive extra it's on the plan so will we lose access to anything past EU or gain zone 1?

To imagine that I would have to swap inclusive extras based on changing travel plans doesn't seem reasonable, surely this can't be how they would implement it.

Customers who travel relatively regularly need a plan that "just works" and know what they are paying for a decent service. I don't have the time or inclination to keep thinking about a phone tariff. I would imagine many people feel the same way.

I hope this is resolved soon, but I do feel they will try to worm out of giving the extended benefits this proposes to existing tariffs. The stock-type responses from community support doesn't inspire confidence either.

We shall see, I suppose!

Your son has to do it whilst in the country.

All he needs to do is:

Ensure DATA ROAMING is switched on so he access 4G / 5G in the visited country and then click on the link in the welcome text (my example is India)

Once he clicks on the link, you get the page open with your roaming options:

You see for India there was a daily option and a weekly option:

Click to buy and it immediately works
