Is there a monthly rate for roaming in the USA or is it a flat £25 a week? Last year it was £25 a month!

Yes, I looked there but it only gives a daily or weekly rate. Is there no monthly rate?

Last year I bought a monthly pass at £25 a time.

The monthly rate for roaming in USA was discontinued last year.

If you are on contract, you may use your usual UK allowances in the EE ROW Zone 1 with up to 50 GB data per billing month if you have more, when you buy the Zone 1 Pass for £5 / day or £25 / week or already have it as an Inclusive Extra or you have an EE Full Works or EE Max Plan. Otherwise you will need to pay the charges or buy roaming add-ons as set out in https://ee.co.uk/help/mobile/roaming/roaming-costs/countries/usa.

If you are on contract, just remember to text ROAMING to 150 before leaving UK to ensure the roaming ability is enabled on your no.

If you are on PAYG, just make sure you had already used your PAYG SIM to make a call or text in the UK.

I keep coming back to £25 a week which sounds really expensive as the user will be in the USA for three months.

Do you have any other ideas please?

The only other idea would be to get a local eSIM but the calls back to UK would be costly.

Not sure what you're looking for by "any other ideas", those are EE's rates.

A local SIM (whether "e" or "p") has pros & cons, but the convenience of roaming can be weighed weighed up against the overall cost of your trip.

A local network SIM will have a local (US) number and may be cheaper for data &/or local in-country calls. The local number will mean cheaper calls for anyone calling you from the US.

Depending on your UK allowances, in-country calls &/or data may well work out similarly priced to roaming. One major benefit is that UK callers are still calling your UK number, and the roaming pass covers the incoming international aspect.

Pros & cons both ways. Whatever you decide, do so on an informed basis.

If you can manage with WhatsApp calling (or any other app for calls) then an e-sim is probably the way to go for 3 months. Ive done this many times when travelling.

For the US you can either get a local visitor e-sim for around $50 per month, ive previously used T-Mobile. Alternatively you can purchase a data only e-sim from one of the many e-sim companies around, for a 3 month trip T-Mobile might be more suitable and likely cost effective. T-Mobile coverage is pretty good in most major cities but maybe worth checking if you are heading anywhere rural. Just to also add that T-Mobile gives you unlimited 5G data and also allows tethering.
