Can’t receive text or send text messages

Hello,

I am abroad in Hungary, I did not have issues like this before. I can’t receive calls from anybody or I can not text back. I can make calls with no problem. When someone calls me it says this person is currently unavailable. Tried to contact with EE but it sends me a text message but I can’t reply on that is text won’t send. I need help but really stuck. Diagnostic shows the phone is fine but there is an issue with the provider.

Have you been able to receive calls or send text messages abroad whilst abroad, previously? How about on this specific trip?

Try manually selecting an alternative local network in the first instance, see if the symptoms are the same.

Yes, I am coming to this town often through the year or going also into other countries and never experienced this issue. EE still could not help me with this. I could even receive calls when I landed on Tuesday but looks like it stopped working on the next day. It is frustrating. Yes I tried other network too but still the same.

Is mobile data working on your phone still, and do services like iMessage and WhatsApp still work?

Have you tried sending a text by entering the number manually including the +44 country code for the UK, too?

Yes, mobile data works fine and all messaging services but can’t send text messages to anybody even it is a uk number.

The thing that has just bitten roaming in the US over the last 24 hours (working data, broken calls) is the automatic network selection. Try turning it automatic network selection off and manually selecting available networks.

Also what exactly happens when you try to send a text?

If you did need to call us on 150, you should still be able to do so, and can skip the text based menu system by pressing 2.

If I try to reply to any message that is normal text it shows not delivered with an exclamation mark on my iPhone. I drove around today in a range of 70km but still no luck so it is not location depending. I will drive to Slovakia tomorrow so I will try to connect to other networks if I receive any calls. The strange thing is on my first day of arrival my wife could call me but nobody could reach me from the next day. When I try to ring my number from other phones, tried with different local service providers it says in English the person you have tried to call is currently unavailable, please try it later. It is frustrating. Even I have WiFi calling on, calls not coming through. FaceTime WhatsApp Facebook messenger calls works fine even using mobile data on both local service providers. Very strange, very frustrating.

Please try manually logging on to one of the other mobile service providers in the area where you are and then test the calls /SMS again.

After selecting a different network just be sure to wait a few minutes for the phone to fully register and connect with the new network.

Have done it couple of time but no luck even I restart the phone. First day it worked and then stopped. I drove to Slovakia now and both working on orange SK.

It seems as though it was a problem with the networks in Hungary. Glad it's working for you again now.

If you face a problem again when you are back in Hungry, please give our Customer Service team a call so they can investigate further.

I’m already back in Hungary and it still doesn’t work. I called CS already 3 times but no luck. They don’t know what is going on and I can’t even get a call back.

If you're not able to pick up a connection why in Hungary, you'll need an alternative number to use for incoming calls.

Do you know of any other EE or UK visitor also in Hungary, and are they facing the same issue?
