Hi

Im going away to the USA this week, ive got a swappable benifit i can use to switch to. So was going to switch it to Roaming to allow me to use the Data/Mins/Texts when abroad.

However there are two available EU and ROW, the More info on ROW tell me nothing, only to look at a table(which isnt listed) . but the EU one seems to mention USA in it, is that correct, the EU Pass is for Europe, USA, Canda, Mexico, Austalia and New Zealand, or am i miss reading something.

Kind regards

Tom.

USA is in Zone 1 so will be covered under Roaming Pass ROW.

Just ensure you enable the technical ability to roam by texting ROAMING to 150 and making sure it responds that you're set up for worldwide roaming.

I see now my account has been changed and i have been added to Roaming Pass Row. Is there no option to have EU Pass and USA together? How often can i switch between the two roaming pass options?

Thanks,

No option to have them together on an All Rounder plan, the only plans that can have both together are those on older Full Works plans with 3 Inclusive Extras or the new Full Works plans taken on or after 29th August 2024 where you have EU + ROW Zone 1 as included add-ons and can have an Inclusive Extra alongside these.

You can however switch between them every 30 days on your existing plan. The Roaming Pass ROW has an expanded list of countries under Zone 1 that you can find here: https://ee.co.uk/roamingrefresh

Previously the Roam Abroad Pass only allowed 5 ROW destinations (USA, Canada, Australia, Mexico, New Zealand).

Has EE just stitched me up? I have a pre-2024 '3 add-ons' SIM deal which gave me EU and USA. Now its been split into two?

I've just dumped 1 out of 4 SIMs with EE, looks like I'll be mover the other three. They are far too expensive without getting this benefit added for 'free'. I knew BT would destroy EE.

Yes they have been split into 2, however the Roaming Pass ROW Inclusive Extra has a massively-improved list of around 33 countries I believe, whereas previously there were only 5 ROW Destinations on the Roam Abroad Pass.

You can see the countries in Zone 1 here: ee.co.uk/roamingrefresh

You can still swap your benefits every 30 days, so can take advantage of the others in between travelling. If they were set in stone I would agree, but you can swap to them in advance of travelling and then swap back to your other benefits the following month when you return.

You are getting the option of 28 extra countries at no additional charge.

Hi Matt, thank you for your reply and confirming that this is an EE stitch-up.

I travel all the time, so waiting 30-days to switch these silly Passes is not viable. My better option is to terminate my three EE SIMs and move to O2. They also appear to grant a higher monthly data allowance when traveling, so please thank EE for encouraging me to take the time to research the market for a superior service.

I believe O2 only provide 25GB of fair usage within the Europe Zone on all plans apart from their top of the line plans. With EE it is up 50GB of your allowances under Roam In EU or Roaming Pass ROW (Zone 1).

And in places such as the US, those plans could have some interesting clauses around traffic management and data speeds that you may want to look into.

I am unsure, worth looking into, I did read something to the tune of "Also, there's no usage limit on data, but speeds are capped at 2Mbps (that's fast enough to stream content on your mobile without any buffering)" on their site in relation to some of their Roaming Plans.

I am an EE customer like yourself, just trying to explain it all as objectively as I can to help you make an informed choice on how to proceed.

I personally believe the introduction of Roaming Pass ROW makes EE one of the better networks for the range of countries available in Zone 1 (such as Turkey, China, UAE, Thailand etc, and the previous countries such as the USA, Australia etc) and the generous fair usage policy compared to some other providers, especially if you can get it for the right price or at no additional cost as many have been able to do over the years.

Ultimately the choice is yours. There is a lot of value in your current plan (especially when you have 3 Inclusive Extras which are flexible). I would just say to make sure that any decision you make on what to do going forward is a considered one based on what else is out there for your needs, and not just an emotional one.

Thanks Matt, that was a constructive contribution. This 'upgrade' to the EE service meant that I had to lose one of my three add-ons to take out the second ROW international use 'inclusive' add-on.

In annoyance and as I'm out of contract, I applied for my PAC code. As expected, the next day I had a call from the Customer Retention department They went through my account and offered me a £15 / month discount, keeping all three add-ons but on a new 24 month contract, which I have accepted. Quid pro quo.

I've noticed there are changes afoot with the Apple Music / TV / Apple One available add-ons / extras, so there are other issues going on here. Apple TV is a pretty poor offering (even when free) so no great loss, and maybe its time for me to try Tidal for music.

I am unsure if it will still work, but it is possible for it to be removed at any point as it is being discontinued.

Entirely your choice on whether you want to change it ahead of time or stick with it until the change is made automatically.

If you're not travelling any time soon then you could just leave it and see what happens, but beware if you do travel and it changes while you are away then you may need to contact EE Customer Services to get them to switch it to the correct option.

The Zone 1 pass does give a lot more destinations outside of the EU Zone though (33 vs only 5 on the Roam Abroad Pass).

ee.co.uk/roamingrefresh

Well I don’t understand why EE has to split EU roaming and ROW Zone 1 roaming into two? One person can’t be in two countries at the same time, so why not just keep it in 1 offer for the customer? So they don’t need to change it back and forth?

I've just received a text to say my inclusive extra will change as above. This thread has definitely helped clarify it for me.

I'll stick to EU for the summer and switch to ROW1 for a North American trip later in the year. The frustrating thing is if I'm travelling to North America but via an EU airport I won't have the same access (I know WiFI is available in airports) but using data etc in transit is helpful for any issues with flights.

Would be good if it could just be switched on/off as required!

You get to use your allowances but there is still a charge so I always find it cheaper to buy an eSIM with someone like Airalo.

I was caught off guard by the change and would like to understand why I was not informed ahead of time. It was not until today that I realized that my roaming in Canada did not work and the only way I could figure this out was by posting a message on a Facebook British Expats in Canada forum. I have now switched my inclusive extra to ROW and luckily I'm not travelling to Europe anytime soon. However, before I could sort this out, I thought I had to purchase a 24 hour pass for £5 which I did so in my app. I would like EE to remove this from my next bill as it is unacceptable to change something that your customers are relying on without giving them due notice.
