Had you used that SIM for making calls or texts in UK before you left to go abroad?

If you are on contract, did you activate roaming on your EE a/c before you left UK by texting ROAMING to 150? Having a roaming billing add-on doesn't of itself activate roaming on your a/c. Having roaming activated on your EE a/c, not just on your device, is crucial to using your contract SIM abroad.

Often just rebooting the phone is the simple remedy. Also try selecting a network manually rather than auto.

Otherwise if you are on contract you need to call CS to get your roaming activated. Try calling CS on the Freephone no. in my sig. on Skype over WiFi. It should be free.

Hi, I am currently in Goa, India in hospital with Pneumonia, which I unfortunately contracted at the end of my holidays. I am desperately trying to add the India Roaming feature to my phone. When I tried using the text message which is sent at the start of my hols, the website told me, I was not setup for roaming (sure I am setup) and would have to log onto the app to sort. After logging on the EE website via Face ID. I was asked to log on again via the website. For some reason, the website would accept my password 3 times and locked my account. So, the question is, how can I contact EE to active roaming in India without paying over £2.70 per minute. I’m desperate to get my travel insurance, plus many other problems sorted, but feel my hands are totally tied. I would greatly appreciate any help given. Regards Nina

Roaming means using your phone on foreign networks. Text messages, voice calls & mobile data all need a mobile network connection.

If roaming was not enabled, you would not have been able to connect to foreign networks and thus would not have received text messages. In this case, you need to break the catch-22 situation and make contact via another means.

If you received a text message at the start of your time abroad, then your phone was connected to a foreign network and thus roaming was enabled. You must have been roaming to receive the text!

Thanks for your reply. I setup Skype on my iPad, used the EE contact number & managed to speak to an advisor within minutes. Thanks again for your help.
